Chapter 29: Warlords of the Republic (11)
Yu Yi was forced to urgently seek help from the Sky God. The Sky God quickly responded: “What help do you need?”
The Sky God’s voice directly reached Yu Yi’s mind. Yu Yi explained the current situation of Ding Jing Man and Tu Fei Bai in a very low voice.
Yu Tao’er only saw Yu Yi’s lips moving, seemingly talking to herself, while the soldiers outside became increasingly loud: “Commander?!”
The Sky God said: “I’ll have Meng Qing come to help you. Cooperate with him.”
At that moment, two soldiers came upstairs and burst into the room. Seeing Tu Fei Bai covered in blood on the bed and Yu Yi pointing a gun at Yu Tao’er, they immediately aimed their guns at Yu Yi.
The “Tu Fei Bai” lying on the bed suddenly spoke: “Don’t shoot.”
Yu Tao’er, who thought Tu Fei Bai was dead, was startled and screamed. The two soldiers were also surprised, staring at Tu Fei Bai slowly raising himself from the bed, their gun barrels lowering.
“Tu Fei Bai” turned over and pointed at Yu Tao’er: “Shut up! Stop yelling! I’m not dead, so why are you screaming? Go back to your room! Close the door and don’t come out.”
Yu Tao’er was scolded, feeling both confused and resentful, but dared not show it. With a wronged expression, she and A Xiang returned to their room.
“Tu Fei Bai” then addressed the two soldiers: “You two, go get a doctor immediately.”
The soldiers hesitated, looking at Yu Yi, who still held a gun. “Tu Fei Bai” shouted: “What are you looking at? Go!” The two quickly obeyed and left.
Yu Yi knew that Meng Qing had possessed Tu Fei Bai’s body, resolving the crisis.
Only the unconscious Ding Jingman and the two of them remained in the room. Yu Yi walked closer and softly said, “Thank you.”
Meng Qing looked down at his chest, frowning and muttering: “Fuck! It really hurts. What weapon did you use?” Then he looked up at Yu Yi, twisting his mouth, “Don’t thank me. I’m not doing this for free. I charge for my services.”
Meng Qing was still bare-chested at this moment. Seeing Yu Yi never daring to look directly at him, he grinned and leaned back on the chair: “Find me a shirt for the commander, make it look handsome.”
When the doctor arrived, there was actually nothing left for him to do. Meng Qing gave the doctor several silver dollars as a “consultation fee” and requested his silence. The doctor had long heard of Tu Feibai’s reputation and was quite afraid of this merciless demon king, repeatedly nodding and promising to forget everything he saw in the room as soon as he left.
“Don’t forget to prescribe medication,” Meng Qing smiled, a smile that made the doctor’s skin crawl.
Ding Jingman survived but was extremely weak and remained in a coma. Yu Yi, in addition to caring for Ding Jingman, also had to take care of the injured “Tu Feibai” who was bedridden.
On the night of the shooting, Yu Taoer personally brought soup and food. Meng Qing had Yu Taoer feed him meals and soup.
Yu Yi found his enjoyable demeanor quite displeasing but didn’t dare say anything, as he still needed to pretend to be Tu Feibai, right?
Yu Taoer glanced triumphantly at Yu Yi standing to the side, then turned to Meng Qing and asked: “Feibai, did A Ke hurt you?”
Meng Qing said: “I first injured Jingman, and A Ke was just protecting her. The matter has passed, don’t mention it again.”
Yu Taoer was oblivious to Tu Feibai’s replacement and felt that Tu Feibai was too “devoted” – being injured by her yet still speaking up for her. Her jealousy surged: “Feibai, you must get better. You’re injured, and I’m so worried!”
Meng Qing smiled, his eyes fixed on Yu Yi: “I can’t die for you!”
Yu Yi glared at Meng Qing, who winked at her.
Yu Taoer looked back at Yu Yi: “A Ke, take the empty bowl downstairs.”
Meng Qing said: “Taoer, you should go too. I want to sleep for a while.”
Yu Taoer smiled: “Okay.” She turned, biting her lip in hatred, gently closed the door, and then caught up with Yu Yi carrying the tray, grabbing her: “Don’t think you can turn from a sparrow into a phoenix! Feibai is just playing with you…”
Yu Yi broke free: “A Ke has never had such thoughts. Fourth Mistress need not worry.”
Before Yu Taoer could say more, a loud voice came from Tu Feibai’s room: “A Ke, come back.”
Yu Taoer became even more jealous but had to let go of Yu Yi.
After delivering the empty bowl to the kitchen, Yu Yi returned to Tu Feibai’s room, closed the door, and whispered: “Mr. Meng, Tu Feibai is not usually like this. What you just did…” She truly didn’t know if Meng Qing was here to help her complete her mission or to cause trouble.
Meng Qing looked innocent: “So what should I do? Lock you up and beat you? Or get intimate with Yu Taoer?”
Yu Yi was momentarily speechless. She couldn’t quite explain what was wrong, always feeling something was off when talking to him. The person before her was indeed Tu Feibai’s appearance and voice, but his way of speaking and demeanor were quite different from Tu Feibai’s.
But then she thought, perhaps it was because she already knew he wasn’t the real Tu Feibai, so she could detect these differences? Didn’t Yu Taoer not notice anything different?
Seeing her silent, Meng Qing continued: “I was suddenly called here without any preparation and suffered a lot…” He pointed to his chest injury, “I want two-thirds of the mission reward.”
Yu Yi suddenly looked up: “What?”
“Two-thirds,” Meng Qing repeated clearly. “Including my service fee, medical expenses, and compensation for mental distress.”
“Mental… distress fee?”
“This injury really hurts!”
“But didn’t you take a painkiller?”
“That was after driving out the unnecessary people.”
Before that, I was enduring pain that could make someone pass out to help you!”
“Fine,” Yu Yi agreed, “but you must help me complete the mission successfully.”
“Of course, partner,” Meng Qing grinned, “Two-thirds of the reward, a full two thousand points!”
Yu Yi stared at Meng Qing, speechless. She suddenly felt this person named Meng Qing was very similar to a god.
—
Yu Yi witnessed the power of a handgun and searched the client-side for handgun usage methods. Meng Qing saw this, leaned over: “Just looking won’t help, let me teach you.”
Yu Yi nodded. Meng Qing added: “The guns of this era are quite outdated, but good for beginners. Get familiar first.” After she learned to use Tu Feibai’s gun, Meng Qing found other guns for her to learn. Throughout the day, Yu Yi learned to disassemble and load guns.
Early on the third day, seeing Yu Yi skillfully disassembling and loading guns, Meng Qing suggested: “Good enough. You can start practicing shooting now.” He supported himself on the chair’s armrest and stood up: “Let’s go to the suburbs to practice.”
Yu Yi looked worried: “You were just injured the day before yesterday and should rest. Let’s practice later.”
Meng Qing said casually: “It’s ‘Commander Tu’ who was injured. I’m fine.” Then he corrected her: “Call me ‘Commander’. Don’t keep saying ‘you, you, you’. Get used to it so you don’t slip up in front of others.”
“Yu Yi didn’t approve of him going out and remained seated at the table: ‘Commander, you clearly said you were in so much pain you almost passed out when you came.’
Meng Qing heard her emphasizing ‘Commander’ and grinned, walking to her and spreading his hands: ‘Different times, different situations. My recovery ability is top-notch.’
Yu Yi did not believe him; how could such a severe injury heal so quickly? This morning, she had personally seen him wake up, and just turning over caused him to break out in cold sweat from pain. If he hadn’t immediately injected a painkiller near his wound, he wouldn’t have appeared so nonchalant.
