The Enigma Squad

Though his interaction with Ge Panming hadn’t been long, Lo Yingbai was worried about Xia Xianning and had lost his usual patience. He pulled Cang Ling Yueyi behind him and said bluntly, “Ge Panming, if you want to fight, then fight. If you have something to say, speak. Stop playing mysterious.” Ge Panming’s gaze swept between the person and the knife, his expression inscrutable. He suddenly leaped, and Lo Yingbai’s fingers tensed, but Ge Panming didn’t attack. Instead, he inexplicably disappeared mid-air.

Here is the edited article:

Lo Yingbai and Cang Ling Yueyi looked at each other, and Ge Panming’s voice, now completely different from before, coldly came from a distance: “Someone’s interrupting, the timing isn’t right, and you’re uninteresting. I’m leaving.”

Lo Yingbai cursed “What’s wrong with him” and immediately rushed towards Xia Xianning’s side.

The Special Investigation Unit’s building was constantly surrounded by a barrier. Though the monstrous bird couldn’t fly out to harm people, it had already smashed the surrounding office buildings into a mess. Not only were windows shattered everywhere, but many people had been burned by the fire it spat out.

When Lo Yingbai arrived, the monstrous bird was tumbling and crashing in mid-air. Already ferocious by nature, it became even more violent when it felt someone on its body. Xia Xianning tightly embraced the bird’s neck, flying up and down with its movements, creating a heart-stopping scene.

Someone below shouted in surprise, “Director Xia!”

Xia Xianning’s calm voice came from above, “Everyone stay away from the windows and be careful of it crashing.”

The wind blew his voice ethereally. With their brief exchange, the monstrous bird let out a long cry, suddenly lowering its head to breathe fire in that direction. But just as its mouth opened, it suddenly let out a mournful cry, its head falling to the ground, blood spurting.

Xia Xianning withdrew his hand, his sword blade dripping with blood onto the ground below—he had decapitated the monstrous bird.

Xia Xianning continued his efforts, swiftly slashing out another sword and cutting the throat of the monster bird’s other head, spraying blood all over himself.

The monster bird roared angrily, bursting with golden light and exploding outward. Its remaining two heads stretched their necks and turned back to peck at Xia Xianning.

Xia Xianning raised his sword to block, but his wrist trembled violently, and the sword fell to the ground. Before he could think further, he heard Luo Mingbai shout, “Xianning, jump down!”

Without hesitation, he leaped downward.

Midair, he saw a beautiful light with red radiance suddenly expanding. Luo Mingbai’s red thread had appeared before his eyes. Xia Xianning pulled hard, using the momentum to swing into the nearest window. The red thread wrapped around the window frame, but Luo Mingbai was no longer in his original position.

The monster bird, severely wounded, had significantly reduced strength but became even more frenzied, flying wildly and kicking up stones and sand.

Seeing Xia Xianning was out of danger, others quickly raised their weapons to attack. However, the bullets bounced off the monster bird’s body, provoking it to spray flames.

Luo Mingbai shouted, “Stop shooting!”

The bullets won’t penetrate.”

Noticing Yang Zheng nearby holding a bow and arrow, he ran over and snatched them, saying, “Let me borrow this!”

He removed the arrow and threw it to the ground, directly placing Cang Lingyue’s translation on the bowstring. The blade’s cold light flickered, illuminating his handsome features.

Luo Mingbai’s sword-like eyebrows slightly furrowed. He drew the bow, aiming at the monster bird in the sky. At that moment, a red light suddenly appeared beside him. Xia Xianning saw this and flicked his wrist, throwing out the red thread that instantly wrapped around the monster bird’s body.

Though the bird broke free in a short moment, it was enough for Luo Mingbai. Slightly curving his lips, he pressed down with his left hand holding the bow and raised his right hand, pulling the bowstring to its maximum before releasing!

Using a long knife as an arrow gave it power far beyond an ordinary bow and arrow. The moment Luo Mingbai released, true qi exploded in the air, like a sudden hurricane with snow and ice. A cold light flashed, simultaneously severing the monster bird’s remaining two heads!

The long knife and heads fell to the ground, while the monster bird’s remaining body suddenly expanded, about to explode.

Xia Xianning retracted the red thread and quickly formed a seal. As layers of light bloomed from his fingertips, he pushed forward, shouting, “Five Emperors, Five Dragons, Flying Frost and Ice, go!”

Frost suddenly rose in the air, snowflakes drifting, temperature dropping sharply. Layers of ice froze the monster bird’s remains, then exploded into chaotic flying red, scattering on the ground.

Under the sunlight, the scene was both cruel and beautiful, more impressive was the power and magnificence within. Cheers erupted suddenly in the previous silence, though it was unclear whether for Luo Mingbai’s stunning arrow or Xia Xianning’s ice spell.

Xia Xianning didn’t care about the cheers, quickly turning to run downstairs towards Luo Mingbai’s location.

Luo Mingbai dropped the bow, not bothering to pick up the knife that fell, feeling darkness before his eyes. He leaned on the nearby window sill.

After returning from the underworld, his depleted energy hadn’t fully recovered. Small spells were fine, but the previous exertion and anxiety for Xia Xianning now made his vision darken.

Xia Xianning rushed over, grabbing him anxiously: “Are you okay?”

Luo Mingbai pushed him away, laughing: “I wasn’t riding some broken bird in the sky. What could happen to me? You should go wash your face – you’re covered in blood. I’m getting dizzy just looking at you.”

“Luo Yingbai said hurriedly, “Grandpa, I just suddenly remembered something, I’ll go first, and I’ll come back to see you after I’m done!”

Old Master Xia, rarely seeing him so anxious, was stunned with an “Ah,” and Luo Yingbai had already hastily thrown out a “Goodbye, Grandpa” and vanished in the blink of an eye.

Grandma Xia also came out, only catching a glimpse of Luo Yingbai’s back, and laughed: “This young man is in such a hurry, he’s most likely going to chase a girl.”

The casual remark of his wife made Old Master Xia think of his grandson. He could pretty much be sure that Xia Xianning liked Luo Yingbai, but he didn’t know exactly how far their relationship had progressed, or what Luo Yingbai was thinking.

He couldn’t help but sigh and said, “I haven’t heard that Yingbai has a girlfriend, he probably doesn’t.”

Grandma Xia said, “He’ll find one sooner or later. Xianning is the same, with no movement at all.”

Old Master Xia said softly, “If only Yingbai… liked men, that would be just fine.”

Unfortunately, Grandma Xia heard this remark, squinting at him, “Old man, are you still drunk from this morning?”

She happily turned and went to the kitchen, “Wait, I just learned how to make a sobering soup.”

Xia Zheng and Cheng Guangchen were married before returning to the Xia family. That high-rise apartment on Lanze Street was their first marital home, though they didn’t live there long before moving to the Xia family’s villa.

Luo Yingbai knew the approximate location, asked the guard at the Xia family gate for the specific address, and took a taxi there.

When Luo Yingbai got out of the car, it was already dark, with almost no one around. The driver quickly took the money and sped away.

Luo Yingbai identified the address and walked towards the building where Xia Zheng lived. Just before reaching the location, he suddenly stopped.

He seemed to hear a distant, piercing scream.
