It was as if she knew that if they didn’t do some things now, they might never get another chance. Shao Tingyu did not reject her; instead, he cradled the back of her head, deepening the light kiss. While everyone’s attention was on the fireworks, the ambiguous emotions between them continued to spread. As their lips and teeth intertwined, Shao Tingyu’s assertiveness was unmistakable. So close, he could clearly smell the faint, cool fragrance of Lin Mengmeng, making one want to keep her close. His warm kisses moved from her lips to the corners of her mouth, then down to her neck, kissing gently, then biting softly due to his inability to control his strength.
Lin Mengmeng was overwhelmed by Shao Tingyu’s domineering control, allowing him to leave marks on her neck and collarbone. Having just taken medication, the side effects hadn’t subsided, and she could only swallow her pain while not wanting to part from Shao Tingyu’s tenderness. The sound of fireworks masked the low moans escaping her lips.
Just as the atmosphere seemed to be heating up, Shao Tingyu suddenly stopped, pulling her head into his embrace. Lin Mengmeng, caught off guard, plunged into his chest, her vision darkening, only to hear a familiar voice behind them. “What a coincidence, Dr. Shao, you’re here watching the fireworks too.” Lin Mengmeng paused her struggle; if she wasn’t mistaken, it was He Lu’s voice, the one she had just bumped into. Shao Tingyu responded coldly, “Do you need something?”
“Yes, since we’re all here to see the cherry blossoms, why not watch together?” He Lu said, sitting directly beside Shao Tingyu, even calling over He Yanbo to join them. He Yanbo, unable to dissuade He Lu, sat down reluctantly. Despite the clear impatience in Shao Tingyu’s eyes, He Lu seemed oblivious, turning to Lin Mengmeng in Shao Tingyu’s arms, asking with feigned concern, “What’s wrong with Ms. Lin? Did I upset her with my words earlier?”
Shao Tingyu shot her a cold glance and said expressionlessly, “She was indeed a bit upset. I was just comforting her.” He Lu laughed scornfully, “I didn’t expect Ms. Lin to be so delicate, getting upset over such small matters.” “She’s used to being pampered at home, so her temper can be quite big,” Shao Tingyu added, playing along. He Lu’s eyes flickered with disdain, about to speak further, when Shao Tingyu changed the subject, “So, Ms. He, please don’t keep upsetting my wife, or I might feel heartache.”
He Lu was taken aback by these words, her anger flaring at the cold look in Shao Tingyu’s eyes. Lin Mengmeng quietly clutched Shao Tingyu’s shirt, her heart pounding. Shao Tingyu, while speaking, gently patted Lin Mengmeng’s back, softly coaxing, “Do you want to keep clinging to me, or watch the cherry blossoms?” If she kept hiding, Lin Mengmeng feared Shao Tingyu would label her as spoiled and wild. She slowly straightened up, still mostly leaning against Shao Tingyu. Fortunately, it was late, and her flushed face was hidden in the darkness.
The four, who had just met, watched the rest of the fireworks display in an awkward atmosphere. He Lu continued to try to engage Shao Tingyu, asking about his identity, age, and home address. If not for the tight string of rationality in Shao Tingyu’s mind, he would have left by now. He Yanbo, sitting beside, couldn’t join the conversation, only listening to He Lu’s chatter, while Lin Mengmeng, the ‘official Mrs. Shao,’ was already feeling drowsy.
Chapter Twenty-Nine: Too Much
Recently, she had been excessively sleepy, and before long, her head was bobbing on Shao Tingyu’s shoulder. A slight smile crept onto Shao Tingyu’s lips; before the fireworks ended, he effortlessly lifted Lin Mengmeng, allowing her head to rest comfortably on his shoulder. He turned to leave when someone called out, “Wait!”
He Lu hastily stood up, “Dr. Shao, you haven’t told me where you’re staying yet. We should hang out sometime since we’re all tourists here.” Shao Tingyu didn’t even look up, “It’s not convenient to share.” With that, he walked away into the crowd. By the time Lin Mengmeng was woken up, they were back at home, where Shao Tingyu was quietly helping her change clothes. “Awake?” he asked, signaling for her to move her arms to help with the undressing. Lin Mengmeng stretched lazily, resting her arm on Shao Tingyu’s, mumbling in frustration, “Let’s go back in a few days.”
Shao Tingyu pulled the blanket over her, “What’s wrong?” Lin Mengmeng was still thinking about the encounter with He Lu at the spring festival, “I just want to go back.” “We’ve seen the cherry blossoms once; that’s enough,” she smiled faintly. Shao Tingyu traced her eyebrows with his fingers, “Alright.” As their emotions deepened, Lin Mengmeng recalled the moment under the cherry blossoms. Shao Tingyu, however, didn’t overthink it, planting a kiss on her forehead, “Get some rest early.” He was about to lie down beside her when a slender hand cautiously wrapped around his waist. Turning around to face her, he asked, “What’s up?” In a place where Shao Tingyu couldn’t see, Lin Mengmeng’s ears turned pink. Her voice was soft, “Tingyu, let’s not sleep early tonight.”
Shaoting Yu’s voice was low, “What’s wrong?” Lin Mengmeng slightly lowered her gaze, reaching out to unbutton Shaoting Yu’s shirt. “We are husband and wife, we can also do things that couples do.” As she had just undone the first button, her hand was firmly grasped by Shaoting Yu. Lin Mengmeng slowly lifted her eyes, her gaze fixed on his bobbing Adam’s apple. Before she could look up, Shaoting Yu suddenly turned her over and pressed down. Their eyes met, and Lin Mengmeng saw the swirling emotions in the man’s eyes. Then, he bent down, forcefully capturing her soft lips, his well-defined hand undoing the buttons of Lin Mengmeng’s clothes. It was a sweet night where they hardly slept. By dawn, Lin Mengmeng was woken by the sunlight piercing through the window. She moved her sore body, rolling into Shaoting Yu’s embrace. Although they had been intimate before, it was the first time Lin Mengmeng saw Shaoting Yu’s well-built body in such bright light. When they first got married, she had fantasized about their true marital life many times. However, without any emotional foundation, Shaoting Yu never touched her, and they always slept in separate rooms. So, their first night together was delayed until now. Although it came late, she was still content. Lin Mengmeng gazed at Shaoting Yu’s stern brows, her hand involuntarily reaching out to smooth his slightly furrowed forehead. Moments later, the man slowly opened his eyes. Lin Mengmeng didn’t withdraw her hand but instead raised a smile, “Good morning, Mr. Shao.” Her voice was so hoarse it startled Shaoting Yu, who noticed the red marks all over her body and carefully recalled the night before. Indeed, it had been somewhat excessive. After a moment of reflection, Shaoting Yu’s eyes flickered slightly as he pulled the blanket higher to cover the marks. “Do you want to sleep a bit longer?” Lin Mengmeng shook her head, playfully saying, “No, I want to eat the millet porridge made by Mr. Shao.”
