“But with current medical technology, there’s indeed no cure for ALS. However, we are researching new drugs that can delay the onset of the disease. If they work well, she can maintain her condition with lifelong medication.” Relying on lifelong medication to delay the disease also meant there was no cure, and even delaying the disease was just a possibility… Mr. and Mrs. Shao exchanged a look, speechless. Over the years, they had roughly understood the relationship between Lin Mengmeng and Shaoting Yu. A marriage in name only, and now, even the chance to make amends was rare for the Shao family. On the other side, Shao Tingyu had just finished his rounds, pressing his weary brow bone. Before he could rest for even a moment, a nurse came in from outside to inform him, “Dr. Shao, there’s another surgery that needs your expertise.” Upon hearing this, Shao Tingyu, sitting in his chair, let out a long sigh, put his mask back on, and stood up: “I understand.”

The pristine hospital corridor was filled with the sound of footsteps rushing to save lives. Shao Tingyu, leading a group of medical staff, headed towards the emergency room, passing by Lin Mengmeng’s ward. His steps slightly paused, and through the small window of the ward, he saw his mother and father, both at the bedside taking care of Lin Mengmeng. He didn’t know what they were talking about, but their gazes towards Lin Mengmeng were filled with worry. Shao Tingyu’s brows furrowed slightly as he recalled the times he spent with Lin Mengmeng. Over the past five years, they had their share of arguments. Later, when he returned to the Shao family in frustration, Lin Mengmeng came to find him the next day, admitting her fault first. She had said, “Let’s not trouble our parents further with our issues. They are old, and they shouldn’t have to worry about their daughter-in-law’s relationship problems. That’s not what I want.” Since then, Lin Mengmeng never dared to argue loudly with him nor troubled their parents with personal matters again. Now, he had broken his own rule, causing his parents to worry about their issues. With these thoughts, Shao Tingyu’s eyes seemed clouded with dust. He silently withdrew his gaze and continued towards the emergency room with the medical staff.
