Qianxi stared at Xing Tuo and Lei Xi, who were chatting as if no one else was around. Their voices were particularly jarring in the quiet space, and she immediately felt everyone’s eyes focus on them. She lowered her head so much it was almost touching the desk!
Suddenly, she felt something prick her nerves. She looked up and saw Zhong Mingjie sitting not far away. The moment their eyes met, she panicked and lowered her head.
Xing Tuo, sitting across from her, noticed her unusual behavior, taking in all her subtle movements and expressions. When he turned back, he saw Zhong Mingjie’s gaze fixed on her. Inexplicably, he felt irritated, a sour feeling filling his chest. He didn’t understand the origin of this unfamiliar emotion and coldly stared at the restless Xia Qianxi.
Qianxi was unaware of Xing Tuo’s icy stare, her thoughts focused on Zhong Mingjie.
“Sorry!” she finally couldn’t help but say softly: “I, I need to go out for a moment!” Without waiting for a response, she hurriedly left. She felt like she was suffocating!
Shen Xinghao and Lei Xi looked puzzled at her urgent departure, while Xing Tuo’s expression was dark.
Qianxi stood in the library corridor, taking a deep breath of cold air, gazing at the budding plum blossoms in the garden, her tense nerves slightly relaxing.
“Oh! I almost forgot!” Tang Qiqi glanced at her watch and said, “He’s still waiting for you on the back mountain! Go quickly! He says he has something to tell you!”
“I won’t go!” Qian Li suddenly became stubborn.
“Go now! Or he’ll turn into a popsicle!” Tang Qiqi pushed her.
Unable to resist Tang Qiqi’s persistent persuasion, she finally went. In the maple forest on the back mountain, a bone-chilling wind shuttled back and forth between dense branches. A few withered leaves hung lonely on the branches. The sky grew darker, seemingly about to rain.
Qian Li saw Zhong Mingjie’s tall figure standing quietly from afar.
They faced each other in silence.
Finally, Zhong Mingjie spoke first: “Do you know? Actually, I don’t have a father.”
