Crushing Scum in the Spotlight

Ning Yumei breathed a sigh of relief, thinking she had gotten away with something.

“If I were to post your furious appearance online, what would everyone think?” Lin Xiaoman stepped into the room, smiling slightly, “What exactly is she angry about? Did she do something wrong? What bad thing did she do?”

Her soft voice was full of threat, making Ning Yumei both shocked and angry: “Enough, shut up!”

“You’d need the ability to make me shut up to say such things,” Lin Xiaoman sat down casually, looking disappointed, “Sister, your methods are too unsophisticated, truly disappointing.”

“I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”

“Don’t worry, I’m not recording,” Lin Xiaoman took out her phone and placed it on the table, “I just want to have a heart-to-heart sister-to-sister chat.”

“What exactly do you want to do?”

“To enlighten your barren brain?” Lin Xiaoman said seriously, “Sister, don’t you know that besides your video, there are cameras on-site? So what if you edited the video? The production team has the original version and can still clear my name.”

“What trick did you use?” Ning Yumei knew the production team had the original version, but considered that revealing the truth would damage Jiani’s image and wouldn’t benefit the show. They would surely find another way to explain it. But no matter what method, some people would believe Lin Xiaoman maliciously treated Jiani.

As long as more people disliked Lin Xiaoman, her goal would be achieved.

“Because I’m the female lead, my image is more important than Jiani’s, and because those who support Jiani don’t dare to offend me, they’ll do as I say,” Lin Xiaoman laughed softly. “Know why they don’t dare to offend me? Because of Ji Zhixian.”

Lin Xiaoman noticed Ning Yumei’s face turning ugly and smiled even brighter: “Do you know why Ji Zhixian helps me? You should know very well, right? Do you know that last time at the dinner, Ji Zhixian directly took me away in front of Director Li, and Li didn’t dare say a word.”

“Damn fox spirit!” Ning Yumei cursed and lunged at Lin Xiaoman. “It’s all you seducing him! You don’t let go of any man! Ji Zhixian was deceived by you!”

Lin Xiaoman easily dodged, standing up and looking down at Ning Yumei who had fallen: “Being able to get everyone to help me is also my skill. What about you? What can you do? Besides using old-fashioned tactics against me, what else can you do?”

She suddenly bent down close to Ning Yumei, looking at her with a half-smile: “So, for your own sake, I advise you not to provoke me.”

After saying this, she left the room directly. This threat was to make Ning Yumei calm down. If she was unwilling to listen, more radical methods might be used. She just needed to wait.

After Lin Xiaoman left, Ning Yumei’s gaze fell on a cosmetic sample in the corner, remembering that Lin Xiaoman always used this spray.

After leaving Ning Yumei’s room, Lin Xiaoman went to the film set. She had scenes with Huo Qizhi in the afternoon. At the set, she saw Huo Qizhi reading a script in the corner.

Lin Xiaoman approached and smiled when Huo Qizhi looked up: “Thank you.”

She hadn’t expected Huo Qizhi to speak up for her, as he seemed warm and approachable, but was actually difficult to get close to. Spending time with him, she discovered he could be described as “cold-hearted.”

He seemed to have good relationships with everyone, but actually cared about very few things or people. Those who thought they were close to him were never truly in his heart.

She had seen people who usually chatted and seemed close to him seek help when in trouble, only to be coldly ignored. A person like this, actually loved himself the most.

”This is what I should do,” Huo Qizhi smiled warmly, creating a friendly illusion.

Lin Xiaoman continued her fake smile, softening her voice: “You’re such a good person.”

Huo Qizhi looked at the delicate girl, her shallow smile carrying a hint of innocence, her eyes bright and sparkling like a beautiful dream. Suddenly, something stirred in his heart.

This feeling, he hadn’t experienced since Tang Feifei left.

“I’m not like this to everyone,” he unexpectedly said something he couldn’t believe himself.

Lin Xiaoman blinked, still smiling innocently: “Then it’s my honor. I’ll treat you to a meal next time.”

“It’s a deal.

Two people finished filming, and Lin Xiaoman returned to the makeup room. The afternoon’s scene involved the second personality. Now she sat in the chair, no longer having the energy to remove her makeup.

“Drive the car over, I’ll be right down,” she instructed Xiaobai, packing up the makeup bag on the table.

Just as she reached Jiani’s makeup room, she heard a sharp scream: “Ah, my face!”

Lin Xiaoman rushed into the room. Jiani was covering her face, her expression grotesque, with her disfigured face visible through her fingers.

Her assistant stood nearby, frozen in place.

“Quickly take her to the hospital,” Lin Xiaoman immediately ordered her assistant and walked over to comfort Jiani, “Don’t be afraid, we’ll go to the hospital.”

“Get away! You evil woman! I’ll haunt you even as a ghost! I will definitely kill you!” Jiani screamed hoarsely.

“Quickly take her to the hospital,” Lin Xiaoman stepped back, waved to her assistant, and called Xiaobai, “Jiani is coming down, take her to the hospital.”

After they left the room, Lin Xiaoman noticed the small sample she had given Jiani had fallen on the floor. She didn’t touch it but exited the room and instructed Director Qian, who had rushed over: “Don’t let anyone enter the room.”

Then she called the police.

After the police arrived and examined the scene, they discovered that the makeup remover in the sample had been replaced with sulfuric acid. Jiani had applied it to her face, resulting in disfigurement.

The police then questioned Jiani’s assistant and learned that Jiani had filmed a crying scene that afternoon. After finishing, she was preparing to remove her makeup but found the makeup remover missing. The assistant remembered the makeup remover in the gift box Lin Xiaoman had given and took it out for Jiani to use.

“My makeup remover couldn’t have been the problem,” Lin Xiaoman said firmly. “I have no reason to harm her.”

“I heard you had conflicts during filming,” the police said.

“But the makeup water had been with her for several days. It could have been switched by someone else.”

“Do you have any suspects?”

Lin Xiaoman shook her head.

She couldn’t figure it out.

When Lin Xiaoman left the police station, Xiaobai told her that Jiani’s face was completely ruined and that the incident was being widely spread online, with accusations pointing to her as the perpetrator.

“You shouldn’t go online now,” Xiaobai looked at her worriedly.

“I’m fine,” Lin Xiaoman smiled at him. “What storm haven’t I weathered?”

Midway through her monologue, she suddenly stopped, seeing a man under the tree.

Ji Zhixian stood there, looking in her direction.

“How did you get here?” she walked closer, teasing, “Another coincidental passing?”

“How are things?” Ji Zhixian got straight to the point.

“There’s no evidence yet, still under investigation,” Lin Xiaoman self-deprecatingly smiled. “The police station and I seem destined to meet.”

“It’ll be fine,” Ji Zhixian’s voice was still cool, but Lin Xiaoman heard a hint of tenderness.

She looked up at the man before her, his clear, star-like eyes fixed on her, resolute: “I won’t let anything happen to you.”

That night, despite the troubling events, she slept very well. She didn’t check online comments or overthink, sleeping soundly until dawn.

The next day at the film set, Lin Xiaoman had just reached the entrance when Jiani’s fans were waiting, holding banners shouting “Lin Xiaoman is the culprit” and throwing eggs at her.
