She gave Yue Xiang a jade pendant from Long Junhao, drew the Dark Hall’s mark, and wrote two letters, hoping the hall master could help resolve their situation given Tianying Country’s power.
Lan Lan stood by the carriage, gazing at the man who had broken countless hearts, now her own. Her phoenix eyes mirrored her reluctance, pain tugging at her as tears flowed.
Ling Feng embraced her, burying his head in her neck and inhaling deeply. Uncertain if they would meet again, his reluctance kept him from letting go. Their farewell kiss was intense, salty tears mingling as they struggled to part.
Uncle Chen and Aunt Chen wiped their eyes, relieved that the children were inside the carriage.
Finally, Ling Feng pulled away, looking deeply into her eyes: “Take care of yourself and protect the children. For you, I will survive. Wait for me.”
He helped her into the carriage, instructing Uncle Chen to drive north.
Lan Lan opened the small rear window, continuously watching his receding figure.
Zhen and Xin exchanged glances, watching their weeping mother.
“Mom, are you missing Dad? We miss him too. Should we go back and wait?” Zhen asked.
“No, Dad will come find us soon. Mommy just got some sand in her eyes, that’s why I’m crying. I’m fine!” Lan Lan stroked their heads, tears still flowing.
“Mom, I’ll wipe it for you, then it won’t hurt. Be good, don’t cry!” Xin said, gently wiping her tears with his small handkerchief.
Reminded by her children, Lan Lan took a deep breath and wiped her tears.
She needed to be strong; without him, she was their only protector.
“Madam, the young master will be fine,” came Uncle Chen’s voice from outside.
Watching the carriage disappear, Ling Feng sat dazedly in the now-empty home.
Midnight.
Ling Feng held his sword while lying on the bed. Suddenly, a sound from the roof made him open his eyes and leap up. His gaze turned predatory, fierce and cold. Sensing the enemy’s intrusion, a slight smile appeared on his lips, revealing the ruthlessness he carried.
Filled with killing intent, he was determined to live for the one he loved.
“Since you’re here, stop hiding and come out!” Ling Feng walked to the courtyard, lighting a torch and challenging the hidden enemies.
