Falling Night Star

On the day of the grand final, An Yunxing watched Lu Jiaming on television. She was focused intently on the game. However, outside the hospital room, Tang Xiaoxiao and Wen Shixiu seemed to be discussing something, and soon, the sound of Tang Xiaoxiao crying reached her ears. She caught a fragment of their conversation, suggesting her condition had entered a terminal phase, a phenomenon known as the “return of light.” This was a sign of impending death. Yet, this fleeting resurgence of strength allowed her to watch Lu Jiaming’s match. Throughout her hospital stay, An Yunxing knew that Los Angeles rarely had good weather, but today, by some miracle, it was a bright sunny day. As the match time ticked away, An Yunxing felt her last bits of strength ebbing away, her eyelids growing heavier. Finally, Tang Xiaoxiao, having composed herself, entered the room and sat beside her. “Do you think I can hold on until he lifts the trophy?” An Yunxing’s voice was barely a whisper, as if she might vanish the next second. Tang Xiaoxiao wiped away her tears, softly comforting, “Star, don’t worry, Lu Jiaming will definitely lead TYG to victory. You will see it.” Her voice still carried the weight of her recent sobbing, indicating how deeply she had been crying. An Yunxing wanted to comfort Tang Xiaoxiao as she usually did, but she had no strength left. The room fell silent, save for the commentator’s excited narration from the TV. In her last moments of vision, she seemed to see Lu Jiaming walking towards her. His smile, his frown, every expression flashed before her like a fleeting panorama. “Sorry, Brother Lu… I can’t see it anymore…” An Yunxing finally closed her eyes, unable to hold on any longer, just as the TV erupted in cheers. The Chinese commentator, moved, announced, “Let’s congratulate Lu Jiaming and his TYG team for winning the global championship, securing the first CPL global trophy! This golden rain belongs to you all…” But the long-awaited outcome of the match, she could no longer hear.

…Three years later, the TYG team in Yilucheng had grown significantly. They opened a youth training facility, dedicated to unearthing eSports talent, and many came in pursuit of fame. Today was the day for the trainees to join TYG. Lu Jiaming, as the team captain, decided to personally guide the students through the training room. He politely introduced the honors TYG had won one by one. Passing by the All-Star poster wall, a female trainee suddenly pointed at An Yunxing’s poster and excitedly said, “The first female sniper goddess of CPL, An Yunxing!” Lu Jiaming smiled, “Do you like her?” The trainee nodded, “She’s the reason I got into eSports. I heard Captain Lu won the global trophy for her.” Lu Jiaming looked down, reflecting, “She… always had a way of inspiring people.” The trainee then asked, “I remember in that interview, Captain Lu confessed his feelings for An Yunxing. Are you two together now?” Lu Jiaming reached out to touch An Yunxing’s All-Star poster, his eyes softening, “This girl, she’s always been mine.”
