After some time, as Sui Huan thought he might fall asleep, a guard burst in: “My lord, we’re surrounded!”
Sui Huan immediately stood up, grabbing Ruan Ning: “A Ruan, let’s break out together.”
“It’s you, not me,” Ruan Ning smiled slightly. “I’ve been waiting for Yan Xuan to rescue me.”
“You’re lying to me again,” Sui Huan gently caressed her cheek. “You’re so good to me.”
The long-abandoned courtyard was surrounded. Yan Xuan, dressed in white, stood at the front of the crowd, tightly watching every exit. He had rushed over upon hearing the news, knowing Sui Huan would risk everything to come for her.
After a long time, a group of black-clothed people silently walked out. Sui Huan and Ruan Ning were in the middle. Sui Huan held her tightly but had a knife across her neck. He whispered in her ear, “Don’t be afraid. We’ll definitely escape.”
“Ning Ning!” Yan Xuan called hoarsely.
“A Mo!”
Ruan Ning responded joyfully.
“Don’t be afraid. I’m here,” Yan Xuan said, stepping forward. “I’ve come to take you home.”
“Yan Xuan, if you take one more step, I’ll kill her,” Sui Huan pressed the knife closer, a sick smile on his face. “I want you to taste what it’s like to watch the person you love die.”
“If you dare touch a single hair on her, I’ll ensure your eternal damnation,” Yan Xuan replied calmly. “Let her go.”
Suddenly, archers appeared on the walls, their arrows aimed at Sui Huan.
“For A Ruan, I’m not afraid of death. Yan Xuan, are you?” Sui Huan provocatively said. “Since I’m doomed to die, I’ll take her with me.”
A crazy thought emerged in his mind: if he lost to Yan Xuan, he would still lose her, so why not die together? Driven by this impulse, he sliced Ruan Ning’s neck, drawing blood. Ruan Ning bit her lip, making no sound.
Yan Xuan erupted in fury: “Sui Huan, how dare you!”
“Of course I dare,” Sui Huan laughed. “If you die here, I’ll spare her. Otherwise, I’ll die with her.”
The blade pressed closer as Sui Huan’s expression turned manic: “A Ruan, I love you. Let’s go together.”
Yan Xuan drew his long knife without hesitation: “Let her go, I’ll die!”
