God’s Code

“Do you know if his only relic before death was truly just the kind of crystal ball used by astrologers, or if its usage was identical to those of the prophets?”

“I don’t know.” By this point, I was getting a bit annoyed, but not knowing is not knowing.

“With so much you don’t know, how can you be certain that the inscriptions were just to ensure his existence was remembered by future generations? What did he mean by ‘seeing this world clearly’?”

I was stunned; it seemed like making judgments with so much uncertainty was indeed hasty. However, being questioned like this by Liang Yingwu made me feel a bit embarrassed, so I retorted, “I might not know those things, but no one knows them either. I can only make the most probable deduction based on the clues I have. Do you have any objections?”

Liang Yingwu shook his head slightly: “Actually, I think your deduction makes a lot of sense. If I were in your shoes, I would think the same.”

“Then what was the point of all those ‘do you know’ questions earlier, just to pick a fight with me?”

Liang Yingwu shook his head again: “Although I now think your conclusion is reasonable, I know a bit more than you, which makes me doubt.”

“Oh?” My interest was piqued: “Don’t tell me your recent mission had something to do with the ruins of Mahabalipuram?”

“That’s not it.” Liang Yingwu hesitated, then fell silent.

I furrowed my brows: “Why start talking and then stop? Another confidential file from Organization X that you can’t discuss? If so, you shouldn’t have mentioned it at all. Now you’re just teasing me.”

Liang Yingwu gave a wry smile: “Alright, alright, since I’ve let it slip, I’ll tell you. Thankfully, it’s not top secret, otherwise, I wouldn’t have revealed anything.”

I perked up my ears.

“On December 26th last year, a burst of high-energy particle beams was detected emanating from the deep waters of the Sunda Trench southwest of Sumatra. Only a few global organizations monitored this peculiar phenomenon.”
