Lone Hawk

Sanbao saw the seriousness in his boss’s eyes and stood up, firmly slapping his chest. “Jiang Ge, I promise. I’ll do my best to ensure sister-in-law’s safety. I solemnly swear today that if I fail in my responsibility, I, Sanbao, will apologize with my death.”

Sanbao was determined to protect the woman in his boss’s heart, knowing this serious entrusting meant Jing Xin held a special place in Jiang Xiangyang’s life.

Years ago, when he was in the Green Snake Gang and was framed, Jiang Ge saved him from gunpoint. In this lifetime, he would give his life for him—let alone protecting a woman.

Jiang Xiangyang nodded, finally settling a major concern and feeling at ease.

After days away, he surprisingly missed her cooking. Jiang Xiangyang smiled self-deprecatingly; he couldn’t resist her warmth, which had penetrated deeply into his heart.

Collecting his thoughts, he decided to go home to see her. They hadn’t spent a New Year together since their marriage, and he wanted to cherish the time they had.

After a long time, Jing Xin realized her infatuation, collecting her chaotic emotions. “Xiang Yang, you’re back?” she asked.

He did not answer, instead asking flatly, “Why did you come back so late?” His tone was indifferent, with a hint of dissatisfaction.

“Oh, the final exams are coming soon. I went to the library to study,” she explained.

His first thought upon hearing she was at the library was whether she was with that man from last time. This thought made him uncomfortable, but he reminded himself not to be too immersed in romantic affairs; although Jing Xin was his woman, it didn’t mean much.

Love felt too luxurious for him now.

“Come back earlier in the future. You can also study at home,” he held back from saying.

Jing Xin responded with an “Mm” and went to the kitchen to cook. She hadn’t bought groceries for several days and had been living on instant noodles. She casually asked, “Xiang Yang, have you eaten?”

“No,” he replied promptly.

Jing Xin frowned. Had he been waiting in his room for her to return?

She took out eggs, shredded meat, and green vegetables from the refrigerator.
