Lone Hawk

Suddenly, snowflakes began to fall softly. Under the dim yellow street lamp, the snowflakes fell like a curtain from the heavens, stinging as they landed on faces.

A subtle footstep sound grew clearer as it approached. A petite figure lunged towards Jiang Xiangyang’s unguarded back.

Jiang Xiangyang turned, his eyebrows furrowed. His eyes narrowed in anger and disbelief. How did she know he was leaving today? How did she find him?

In the white snow, the woman’s face was pale, her chest heaving violently as she clung tightly to him, afraid he would leave if she loosened her grip.

Jiang Xiangyang looked down at the woman, snowflakes settling on her forehead. Tears had left moisture on her face, and the cold skin transmitted through her clothes touched his heart.

A surge of reluctance surfaced, but he quickly suppressed it. He pried open her tightly clasped hands, asking coldly, “Why did you come?”

“You were going to leave without saying goodbye?” She looked up, her pouting lips showing her grievance.

“Stop it, Jing Xin. Go back!” He couldn’t bring himself to scold her; she had been through so much with him.

Her hands again wrapped tightly around his waist. “I won’t leave. I’ll follow you wherever you go. Don’t forget we’re already married. You promised to take care of me for life. Jiang Xiangyang, you can’t leave me alone.”

Tears dropped onto his hand, burning his heart.

Ruan Hongling watched the couple in disbelief. Married? How could Jiang Xiangyang be married?

Jiang Xiangyang stood stiffly, his furrowed brows indicating internal struggle. What was he doing? A farewell scene?

No longer hesitating, Jiang Xiangyang decisively pulled her away. “Go back. I won’t take you with me!”

“Let me follow you.”

“Go back.” He turned and walked towards the ticket gate.

“Xiangyang, let me go with you.” Her small body lunged forward.

Jiang Xiangyang saw Sanbao running over and shouted, “Sanbao, Jian Xiong, take her back. Take her away immediately.”

Sanbao grabbed her arm. “Sister-in-law, let’s go. Brother Jiang has his difficulties.”

“Xiangyang, don’t abandon me. Let me go with you.” She feared he might not return for years, and her heart raced.

She broke free from Sanbao, ran in front of him, and grabbed his hand, her eyes filled with anger. “I’m definitely going with you.”
