Love in Shackles

“Then who did you dream about?” He looked at me with a half-smile, making me uneasy, worried he had set another trap.

“I don’t remember,” I said, fearing his reaction if I mentioned the dream. “I had a slight impression, but you scared me, and now I’ve forgotten everything.”

“Do I look that scary?”

I looked up. Perhaps due to the light, his features were deep and serious; he seemed determined to extract something from me.

I smiled sweetly. “Senior brother, you’re not scary at all. It’s just that I haven’t woken up in a man’s arms for three years… I’m a bit unaccustomed.”

Ye Zhengchen laughed, satisfied like a cat that just stole some fish. “It’s okay, you’ll get used to it slowly.”

He hadn’t changed at all, still irresistibly tempting. With just a few soft words, he would throw all reason to the winds.

I suspected he had been sent to Japan through connections; otherwise, how could such an unprincipled wolf be trusted?

He had a father who was a commander, and I wondered what kind of person he was, feeling worried about Ye Zhengchen’s conduct.

Lost in thought, I remembered my father. Considering his illness, my good mood vanished, and I sighed deeply.

Ye Zhengchen stared at me, his smile fading. “Feeling guilty about him again?”

I shook my head. “I’m worried about my father’s health.” Given his condition, I didn’t know how to tell him about my situation with Yin Zhongtian. If he learned about my affair with Ye Zhengchen, it might break his heart.

“Do you really want to marry me?” I asked. “You’re not just playing with me, right?”

“What do you think?”

I sat up and looked at him seriously. “Have you divorced Yu Yin?”

“We were never married!” he corrected.

Still concerned, I asked, “You won’t end up having a child together, will you?”

Ye Zhengchen gritted his teeth, visibly angry. “Would you believe a child is mine just because she brings a paternity test report?”

I was worried about my father.

“Darling, believe me, I have nothing to do with Yu Yin.”

I leaned on his shoulder. “Don’t lie to me anymore. Just tell me the truth.”
