Ye Zhengchen was at a loss when Zheng Wei whispered something in Wu Ge’s ear, making Wu Ge’s expression turn excited. “Really?”
Zheng Wei nodded seriously.
Wu Ge then wore an ambiguous smile, picked up a wine glass filled with pale yellow wine, and pushed it into my hand. “Come, a toast to you.”
Ye Zhengchen reached for my wine glass, but Wu Ge pushed his hand away. “Didn’t you say you’re drunk and can’t drink?”
“She doesn’t drink alcohol.”
He squinted his blurry drunk eyes at Ye Zhengchen. “White wine won’t get you drunk.”
“It’s okay; I can drink.” I tilted my head back and drank it all. The wine tasted good, slightly bitter at first, with a sweet and sour aftertaste.
“Are you okay?”
Ye Zhengchen looked at me carefully.
“I’m fine.” The wine warmed my stomach, spreading a heated sensation through my limbs, making me slightly flushed.
“Let’s go,” Ye Zhengchen said, pulling me away and patting Zheng Wei. “Come out with me for a moment.”
At the elevator, Ye Zhengchen explained, “It’s too complicated here. I’ll stay at the villa tonight.”
“Villa?” Zheng Wei asked. “Your grandfather’s nursing villa?”
“Yes, it’s empty now.”
“Do you want me to take you there?”
“No, I’m not familiar with the route. A taxi will be easier. When you’re done, come find me at XX Villa, Building X, Number X.”
“Okay!”
Before the elevator arrived, Ye Zhengchen asked, “What did you tell Wu Ge?”
“I told him you’ve known each other for almost four years but haven’t found the right moment. Tonight is a rare opportunity.”
“What?!”
“Don’t thank me. We’ve known each other since childhood.”
“How did I end up knowing you?!”
“Must be good deeds from a previous life.”
Ye Zhengchen was about to speak when the elevator arrived. He pulled me in but suddenly remembered something and blocked the door: “Come downstairs with me. I have something in your car.”
Sure enough, old habits die hard; even now, he hadn’t forgotten those few sets of clothes.
