My Ancient Divorce

Xu Jie’er turned 365 degrees in front of the bronze mirror, then slumped down dejectedly. No wonder her royal husband would look down on her. This was hardly different from her modern self – just slightly younger in appearance, with slightly smoother skin. But overall, she was still quite ordinary, the type who would blend into a crowd and be impossible to distinguish.

“Miss, what’s wrong?” Butterfly looked at Xu Jie’er’s rapidly changing and gloomy expression with confusion, asking anxiously.

Jie’er sat listlessly on the corridor, propping her chin with her hands, and mumbled, “Butterfly, tell me the truth. Is your master’s husband looking down on you because you’re not pretty, so he’s married a bunch of beautiful concubines and deliberately abandoned you here, leaving you to fend for yourself?”

“That’s not true!” Butterfly hurriedly shook her head, her eyes sparkling. “Miss is not unattractive at all! Butterfly thinks miss is very cute!” Cute, cute, pitifully unloved! This girl’s consolation skills were really lacking.

Seeing Jie’er’s expression hadn’t improved, Butterfly continued, “The prince has only one wife and one concubine, and it was miss who chose to move to this separate residence!” Only one wife and one concubine – still relatively normal, better than she had imagined! However…

“So, why did I come here myself?” Jie’er blinked her big eyes like a curious child, persistently asking.

“This… Butterfly doesn’t know!” Butterfly’s gaze began to drift, clearly lacking confidence.

“Really?” Jie’er suddenly leaned in close, half-narrowing her eyes and staring intently.

The young maid looked increasingly guilty but still stubbornly insisted, “Butterfly really doesn’t know!”

“Never mind!” Xu Jie’er pursed her lips, turning away and casually playing with her fingers. “When we return to the prince’s residence, everything will naturally become clear!”

Seeing her stop questioning, the maid breathed a sigh of relief and took the opportunity to escape, saying, “Butterfly will go pack the luggage so miss can return home soon!”

Watching her stumble away, Jie’er smiled and couldn’t help but call out, “Be careful!”

“I know!” Though Butterfly responded, her pace didn’t slow down, as if afraid Jie’er might change her mind at any moment. What a fun little maid…
