The universe is vast and endless, hiding countless secrets. Between Earth and a mysterious world, there exists an elusive passage connecting two different dimensions of existence. In the Milky Way, on Earth.
On a summer afternoon, the air was thick with drowsiness. In a senior high school classroom, Mao An’an was dozing off with her head propped up on the desk. The teacher was tirelessly repeating, “You must include the conditions for this chemical equation, or else you won’t get any points, no points!” However, Mao’s head, supported by her pen, was still nodding off.
Thud! Her head was hit by a piece of chalk. Caught napping?!
Mao An’an jolted up, hastily stood, and admitted her mistake, “Teacher, I was wrong. I won’t daydream in class again. Please don’t make me copy the exam paper.”
A hot breeze swirled through the room. Her classmates stared at her, mouths agape, while the teacher’s chalk remained poised on the blackboard. Her friend Xiaoya quickly pulled Mao An’an back into her seat, “Where did your mind wander off to? That chalk was thrown by Guo Pang from behind!”
Mao An’an turned to look at the mischievous chubby kid at the back, making a ‘you’re dead’ gesture. Guo Pang mouthed back, ‘Let’s skip evening study and go rollerblading tonight.’ Mao An’an rolled her eyes and turned back, struggling between listening and dozing off.
Mao’s academic performance wasn’t outstanding; top universities were out of reach, regular universities were a challenge, and even a basic degree was a stretch. In this elite high school with a high college admission rate, Mao An’an, who would have been average elsewhere, found herself at the bottom. Teachers focused on students striving for excellence, ignoring those at the bottom unless they caused trouble. Thus, despite her reluctance, Mao An’an was eventually dragged out by Guo Pang and Xiaoya to go rollerblading during evening study.
“Duck, why do we need to study?” Mao An’an leaned against a pillar, trying to stabilize herself, looking utterly worn out by the education system. Xiaoya sighed, “To get into university, of course.”
“What’s university for?”
“To find a job.”
“And what’s the job for?”
“To find a husband, have kids, and then make sure they study hard to get into university.” Mao An’an: …
Meanwhile, in another dimension of the universe, on the planet Kino in the Erei Galaxy:
Prince Li Erben frowned at the holographic strategic plan projected in the air, his handsome face shadowed with concern, which only deepened his aura as the Empire’s supreme commander. Prince Li Erben, the most excellent, wealthiest, and charismatic leader of the Austin Empire.
Beside him stood the respectful Adjutant Ivan, “Your Highness, the war that lasted nineteen days has finally come to a temporary halt. We lost sixty-four warriors, while the Zeraeni family lost nearly a thousand,” he paused, slightly excited, “We won.”
Li Erben turned slowly, his pure black hair flowing down to the ground, shining with a subtle luxury. He picked up an exquisite and expensive wine glass with his elegant fingers, “We haven’t won. They lost valueless clones, while we lost our precious warriors. Zeraeni’s cost was much less than ours.”
Adjutant Ivan humbly reassured, “Your Highness need not worry; our noble queen has already groomed the best heir for Austin.”
“The only heir,” Prince Li Erben emphasized, his frown deepening, “Just a few hundred years ago, the empire chose heirs by the hundred. Now, we’re left with just Mir.”
Adjutant Ivan tried to comfort the prince, “His Highness will soon come of age, and then we can select excellent noble women for reproduction, producing many new lives.”
“With increasingly fewer females?” Prince Li Erben took a sip of his wine, his concern deepening, “Even with more heirs, we can’t match the Zeraeni family known for cloning.”
The Austin nobility was vast, but female nobles were scarce. Due to their unparalleled genetic superiority, offspring from noble unions were powerful and exceptionally intelligent, while children from commoners or mixed marriages were as ordinary as cabbages. Imagine a victorious general leading a battalion of cabbages into battle; the result would be predictable… even if all the cabbages were thrown, they wouldn’t take down even one enemy warship. Thus, favoring boys over girls was clearly not the way to go.
Adjutant Ivan stepped forward, a strange light in his eyes, “The cloning virus research in the lab is in its critical phase; if successful…”
Prince Li Erben walked to the massive floor-to-ceiling window, coldly gazing at the distant black planet enveloped in stardust. The Zeraeni family, with their unparalleled cloning technology, had produced numerous skilled warriors for the battlefield. Even with Austin’s powerful warships and laser particle bombardment cannons, they suffered heavy losses against the Zeraeni’s human wave attacks, whose strategy was, if not to survive, then to die together. These clone warriors, capable of breaching blockades to slit throats, were a headache for Prince Li Erben.
Adjutant Ivan continued, “Over the past hundred years, eleven children have been born, including the soon-to-be-of-age Prince Mill. Each newborn takes a hundred years to mature. In another hundred years, our tribe will gain ten more of the best generals. However, a population gap has emerged, and the combat value of our army will reach its lowest point. If the Zeražni family launches an attack at this time…” Prince Lirben fell silent.
Meanwhile, student Mao An’an, who had just learned to roller skate, was knocked flying by someone from behind. She was rushing towards a pillar in terror with her eyes wide open, about to crash into it, “Yaaahhh!!!” … Huh? The air here was icy cold, completely different from the noisy and stuffy rink… Mao An’an slowly removed her hands from her face, looking left, right, up, took a deep breath, pinched her chubby thigh hard, glanced at the skates on her feet and the locker number tag on her wrist, then stood there bewildered. All around her was nothing but snow.
“@#¥%! (Who’s there!)” Startled by a sudden shout from behind, Mao An’an’s legs shook, and she screamed as she stumbled forward, crashing inelegantly into the ground. When Mao finally pulled her head out of the snow, she was surrounded by laser particle guns.
“!!!!!” Facing a group of fully armed, tall humanoid beings, Mao An’an waved her hands frantically to show she had no weapons, only the skates on her feet could be considered metal, but she wasn’t foolish enough to challenge their laser particle guns with roller skates. Thus, she was captured.
