Today was truly vulgar. No one even bothered to dismiss her, and she felt like discarded trash… Xia Bing returned to her apartment in a daze.
She wanted to joke with Xia Hou Zun about today’s events but found he wasn’t there… Waiting from day to night… from night to day. Not a phone call, not a message, nothing… Xia Bing collapsed on the bed, realizing she had overestimated herself. She was just a stranger, worth nothing in his heart.
Days passed in a blur.
The doorbell rang. Xia Bing touched her face, afraid her appearance would scare Xia Hou. Urged by the doorbell, she opened the door and saw Cheng Yuanjun, her eyes filled with undisguised disappointment.
It had only been a dozen days, but Yuanjun was shocked by how haggard Xia Bing looked.
“What happened to you?” Yuanjun dropped his usual playful demeanor.
“Nothing.” After these two simple words, she collapsed from exhaustion.
“Xia Bing, Xia Bing…”
In the hospital.
Yuanjun looked at the woman on the hospital bed, missing the sharp-tongued woman more than this weak, sickly one.
Xia Bing woke up, seeing the white surroundings, the IV drip, and then Cheng Yuanjun.
“You brought me to the hospital,” she said, her mouth feeling dry.
Yuanjun nodded and went to get her some water.
Xia Bing gave a bitter smile. She had never been kind to Cheng Yuanjun before, yet he helped her in her worst moment. This was probably what they meant by “distant relatives are not as good as nearby neighbors.”
After drinking the warm water, she felt much better.
“When can I go back.” She really disliked hospitals, hating the atmosphere of death where she had lost her parents and Uncle Mo.
“You’ll need to hang a few more IV bags. I didn’t know we have people in S City who almost starve to death…” Yuanjun tried to lighten the mood and subtly probe into why she was in such a mess.
Yuanjun asked if she had contacted Xia Hou Zun.
“We have nothing to do with each other. Why would I contact him?” Xia Bing said firmly, secretly wondering if Xia Hou would be sad about her illness. Thinking this, she felt pathetic, wondering why she was degrading herself… not worth it…
