Peach Blossom Calamity

After sending Lu Yiyi upstairs, this dead woman Liang Xiaoyu even said she would formally thank Chen Haijun another day, which was clearly meant to keep in touch with him. Xia Bing could only convey her resentment through a glaring look directed at this dead woman.

Her friend was no pushover; Liang Xiaoyu stood even taller and adopted a policy of ignoring Xia Bing. Xia Bing could only silently curse Xiaoyu as cunning and unscrupulous. This woman already had a good fiancé, while Xia Bing was alone, and she seemed eager to see her paired up. Today, having caught an opportunity, she eyed Chen Haijun’s excellent conditions and wanted to immediately package her up and deliver her to him.

“I’ll take care of her first, and when she’s almost better, I’ll have my family pick me up,” Liang Xiaoyu urged the two to leave, subtly hinting to Xia Bing to seize the opportunity.

Chen Haijun smiled at Liang Xiaoyu, and Xia Bing returned to her room to grab some things before leaving.

“Bing, what are you taking bread and milk for?” Xiaoyu naturally knew it was for eating. This woman wasn’t taking advantage of the opportunity to have dinner together and increase their time together. Xia Bing had definitely written so many romance novels; how could she not know how to seize such opportunities?

Xia Bing turned back to see Liang Xiaoyu’s expression of frustration, and she chuckled.

Chen Haijun followed Xia Bing downstairs.

“Here,” Xia Bing divided the milk and bread with Chen Haijun, feeling a bit embarrassed, “My friend is a bit nosy, but she’s very nice.”

Haijun took the milk, and when Xia Bing saw he hadn’t opened the package, she proactively unwrapped it for him, “Eat quickly. I was trying to appear refined in front of you, but it seems I’m about to fail.” Xia Bing decided to treat Haijun as a friend. Remembering that Yiyi had accidentally dirtied his car earlier, she brought it up and apologized.

“Fail? What do you mean?” Haijun looked at Xia Bing now, feeling much closer than when they were at the coffee shop. Although she had been talkative before, she had still seemed somewhat distant. After what just happened, he felt they had grown closer.

Actually, Xia Bing was a very attention-grabbing woman. Although not extremely beautiful, her smile was so radiant that it made people want to draw near and be infected by her happiness.

Xia Bing smiled and, seeing the stairs were quite clean, sat down.

“Because you’re a good person, I’ve decided to be friends with you,” Xia Bing took a bite of bread and then a sip of milk.

Haijun sat down next to Xia Bing and started eating, finding it quite interesting.

“Haijun, I feel like we’re not quite the same type of people,” Xia Bing looked at Haijun beside her. Even while eating street food, his demeanor suggested he was dining at a high-end restaurant.

Haijun turned to look at Xia Bing, “I thought we were both earthlings. Am I an alien?” He laughed.

“Come on, stop talking nonsense. You know what I mean,” Xia Bing glanced at Haijun and continued eating her bread. “You have a good temper, you’re a nice person, but it doesn’t make sense for such a distinguished person to come out for a blind date.”

“So, you think you’re not good enough?” he teased.

“Not at all. It’s like a pair of high-end leather shoes placed next to a pair of cloth shoes, standing out so conspicuously,” Xia Bing laughed, explaining that high-end and ordinary shoes, when placed together, always look strange.

Haijun understood her meaning, “But they’re all shoes. I don’t believe these two types of shoes are that different in your mind.” He believed Xia Bing wasn’t a materialistic girl.

“Of course there’s a difference. How can you ignore it? A pair of high-end shoes and a pair of common shoes can’t be the same,” Xia Bing finished her milk in one gulp and set the bottle aside. “Beautiful love only exists in fairy tales.” She stood up and stretched.

“Don’t you believe in love?”

Xia Bing turned around, smiling brightly, “Don’t think I look like someone hurt by love. I just don’t believe I can attain it.” Love certainly exists, just perhaps not for her.

Haijun stood up, “You’re not confident?”

“Maybe,” she continued to smile radiantly. “You said you’re back from overseas and planning to settle down?”

Walking side by side, Xia Bing gained a deeper understanding of Chen Haijun. He said he was considering settling down, perhaps staying for a while. Xia Bing heard he had been working overseas for almost seven years and asked if he regretted suddenly leaving everything behind.

“Not really,” he continued to smile elegantly.

Xia Bing noticed he was being somewhat vague and didn’t press further. She remembered the book she was rushing to write and was about to say goodbye to Chen Haijun and return to writing, or else she’d receive a deadly call from her editor tomorrow.

“Let me take you back.”

Seeing Chen Haijun offer to take her home, Xia Bing didn’t hesitate and quickly got into the car.

“What’s your number? Next time, Liang Xiaoyu and Lu Yiyi will have to go to the trouble,” Xia Bing didn’t dare to go against Xiaoyu’s earlier earnest instructions. If she didn’t get Chen Haijun’s number, she’d be driven crazy by this woman.

Chen Haijun had just returned and hadn’t gotten a new number yet, so he let Xia Bing give him her number.

Xia Bing quickly called Xiaoyu and said a few words before hanging up.

Xia Bing smiled awkwardly at Chen Haijun, “Not convenient, I don’t quite remember the number.”

Two beeps later, Xiaoyu replied with a text message. Xia Bing looked around and saw no paper or pen… she looked helpless again.

“You can tell me. I’ll memorize it now.” Chen Haijun looked at Xia Bing, who seemed a bit confused, and found her quite adorable. In fact, even when they weren’t talking at the cafe, he had already noticed her.

A handsome man, a seductive woman, and her delicate appearance – Haijun believed that many people had noticed their table, especially after the water-splashing incident. After being splashed with water by that arrogant woman, he thought Xia Bing would remain silent, but to his surprise, she cleverly retaliated.

“You must remember the number, or else I’ll be tormented to death by that woman Xiaoyu,” Xia Bing confirmed that Chen Haijun had noted down the number.

Chen Haijun smiled, thinking that this Xiaoyu wasn’t so scary.

“Once you’ve been around her for a while, you’ll understand,” Xia Bing unfairly exposed Liang Xiaoyu’s true nature, glancing sideways at Chen Haijun, “She’s already taken, but I could still introduce her to you if you’d like.”

“You’re so interesting. If you approached men with this side of yourself, I’m sure you would have been taken long ago,” Chen Haijun teased.

Xia Bing dramatically shuddered, “No thanks. That sounds like a curse. Don’t say things that might stimulate my heart.”

Time Smooths the Edges

Xia Bing said goodbye to Chen Haijun, came back to freshen up, and then rushed to her computer to work on her writing.

The phone rang, and Xia Bing didn’t even glance at it, “Xiao Bing, how are things with Haijun…”

With writing being urgent, Xia Bing unceremoniously pulled out the phone cord and looked at her mobile phone, pressing a button before tossing it back in the drawer. Even if the king of heaven came looking for her now, it wouldn’t matter – she had to finish her writing or she’d see her editor’s angry face tomorrow. She had procrastinated, and tomorrow was the final submission deadline.

Finally, at two in the morning, she finished her writing. Xia Bing immediately copied the file to a USB drive, mission accomplished.

“Finally, I can rest for a while,” Xia Bing looked satisfyingly at her computer, playing some of her recent favorite songs. Remembering she had to meet someone tomorrow, she decided to take a shower first.
