Prologue

By the Yellow Springs road, the fiery red spider lily bloomed vibrantly. A tall male figure stood among the clusters of flowers, fallen petals dancing, unable to hide the desolation in his eyes. That silhouette became another landscape by the Naihe Bridge, an eternal loneliness.

“Foolish child, the cycle of life and death is common in the six realms. Why are you so obsessed?”

In the Hall of King Yama, they had never seen a soul like this; the Meng Po Soup could not wash away the mark in his heart.

Through several reincarnations, his memories became bone-deep. The hellfire burning in his heart could not shake him at all. This abnormality finally alarmed the great god, who specially came to see him.

He turned his head slightly, a cold smile at the corner of his mouth.

He had drunk the Meng Po Soup and endured hellfire, but the person etched in his heart had never been forgotten.

He didn’t know why the Meng Po Soup had lost its effect. He only knew he didn’t want to forget, even if it meant suffering eternal burning. Fortunately, he had not forgotten.

“What life is she in now? Has anyone loved her and stopped her from suffering?” This was the only question he asked.

“Foolish child, do you regret it?” The aged voice asked with a long sigh.

Did he regret casting the forbidden spell, exchanging his own life for her rebirth, and suffering until her soul returned? Did he regret seeking her traces, breaking the Meng Po Soup’s effect, and suffering the pain of an unforgettable soul?

He received no answer and closed his mouth, refusing to respond.

He would not regret it. If he could do it again, he would still protect her with all his might. To him, she was the only one.

Suspended in midair, a pair of wise and compassionate eyes remarked, “Situ Qifeng, don’t forget, she is only your sister!”

“Sister? So what?” he replied coldly. “She is my Wind.” That was enough.

In his brief and dark life, he never understood love, family, or friendship. All his emotions were poured into her; he wanted to see her happy. For this, he could die for her, give his all, and even send her to the person she loved. What kind of emotion was it? Did that matter?

Thinking of that person, a faint smile appeared on his face, bringing a sweetness he himself didn’t realize.

He lowered his head, saw the flowers swaying in the wind, and gently stroked them with his long hand. They said these flowers were red, like blood and fire, but to him, they were a lighter shade of black. He looked around, seeing only shades of black and white, knowing his eyes would never see color in a place without her.

“Wind, if only you were here! If you were here, I could see how brilliant and luxurious these Manjushage flowers are.”

As he concentrated on his thoughts, voices filled the air. He frowned slightly, raised his head, and said, “Shut up!”

It seemed the god in the sky never expected to be scolded and stood there open-mouthed.

Finally, the world became quiet, and Situ Qifeng exhaled, satisfied. They say even the heavenly heart cannot overcome the human heart.

Thousands of years of cultivation cannot break through the mortal world.

After experiencing life, death, and soul separation, burned by hellfire, the brilliant Manjushage flowers turned red as blood.

There exists an emotion that can overcome life and death, reaching the deepest part of the soul.

Big Brother grabbed Qi Feng’s hand, “Are you okay?”
Qi Feng’s face changed dramatically, “Where’s Feng’er?”
He remembered that Feng’er had a heart attack and that he had cast the Situ family’s forbidden spell, exchanging his own life to let her be reborn in another world. But now, he was alive and well; where was his Feng’er?
His father’s hand trembled as he stroked his head, “It’s good that you’re fine.”
Qi Feng pushed the two people blocking him away and jumped off the bed barefoot. He stumbled and opened his sister’s door, finding the room silent. He looked around blankly, confused about Feng’er’s whereabouts.
His big brother supported his swaying body, unable to look at his panic.
“The spell failed, didn’t it?” Situ Qi Feng murmured, “I turned out to be so useless.”
After a long pause, he raised his face, “Where is she?”
His big brother sighed deeply, “Her body has disappeared.”
“She will come back, right?” he asked stubbornly.
His big brother tightened his grip on his shoulder, “Yes, so you must live on.”

Situ Qi Feng fell onto the sofa where Feng’er usually sat, clutching her favorite cushion that still carried her fragrance.

“Feng’er, you’re not dead, right? You’ll come back, won’t you?” he spoke softly to himself. Despite his aloof nature, her charming smile was the only soft spot in his cold heart.

Chaos reigned around Ru Feng as she felt a suffocating pain in her neck. Struggling to open her heavy eyelids, she screamed in her mind but couldn’t break through the fog. When the pressure on her neck eased, she gasped and coughed painfully.

“Get out!” a hostile male voice rang out. This voice was unpleasant yet oddly familiar.

Ru Feng screamed again, her voice piercing. After a long sleep, she found herself naked in bed with her second brother, who was also nude, pressing down on her. The stark difference in their bodies overwhelmed her senses.

Hearing her scream, Situ Qi Feng frowned, impatience flashing in his eyes. He removed his hands from her neck and squeezed her chest hard, “A piece of trash like you wants to climb into my bed?”

Slightly raising himself, he glanced at her lower abdomen, “Know your place!” Before Ru Feng could respond, Situ Qi Feng kicked her off the bed. She fell with a “thud,” her buttocks hurting. Ru Feng covered her head, seeing stars.

“What’s going on?” The door creaked open, and her big brother leaned against it, half-smiling, “Qi Feng, how can you be so ungentle with a lady?”

Situ Qi Feng snorted, sitting up and pulling clothes over himself. He got off the bed and walked to the still-dazed Ru Feng, stepping on her neck. “You’re not worthy of the name Ru Feng.”

Suddenly, the pressure lifted. Situ Qi Feng didn’t look at her again, “How disgusting.” He strode out, passing his big brother and saying, “Burn everything on the bed.”

The big brother’s smile didn’t fade. After Qi Feng disappeared around the corner, he slowly walked over, looking at the incapacitated woman with a hint of contempt. He squatted down, pinching a spot of pink on her chest. “This kind of trash isn’t much.”

Ru Feng pushed him away, trying to sit up but pressed down by her aching body. She felt overwhelmed and curled up in embarrassment, turning away.

The big brother didn’t understand her struggle. Standing up, he flicked his fingers, “Qiu Ru Feng, next time you pretend to be my sister’s friend, please fix your brain first.” His face smiled like spring, but his words were bone-chilling, “Climbing into a man’s bed in the middle of the night? Tsk, and it’s my second brother. You’re looking to die quickly! Take your things and get out in ten minutes!”
