Shapeshifters

At the mention of “ways,” I frowned. I knew what this expert in enchantment meant by “ways,” having experienced a bit of it myself. For her, the human brain was as traceable as a computer.
Seeing Lu Yun’s confident demeanor, I felt quite hesitant. After all, Ruan Xiuwen was from the X organization, and as Liang Yingwu had mentioned, he was not just any ordinary researcher. Any misunderstanding could lead to consequences beyond what I could handle, and if Lu Yun got involved, things would only get more complicated. Moreover, Su Ying was somewhat of a friend, and this approach felt like an invasion of her privacy, which seemed unjust. Lu Yun evidently noticed my concerns.

“I can also treat the young lady with a history of mental illness while we’re at it. I assure you, nothing will go wrong,” Lu Yun said.

After a moment’s hesitation, I agreed, and we headed to Zhidan Garden together. By the afternoon, when Su Ying was about to return home, Lu Yun and I knocked on her door. Su Ying was momentarily stunned to see Lu Yun. I introduced her as a friend, clarifying that she wasn’t my girlfriend, and Su Ying, though surprised, politely invited us in.

I had planned to start with topics Su Ying was interested in to ease into the reason for our visit, to avoid seeming abrupt. However, after holding back my curiosity all afternoon, I blurted out the purpose of our visit: “Su Ying, Miss Lu Yun here can cure your condition. That’s why we’re here.”

“I’m not ill. You must have got it wrong!” Her cheeks twitched, and she sat down on the sofa awkwardly.

“I know you’ve had some mental issues in the past. Lu Yun is an expert in this field.”

“What? That’s nonsense! How… how do you know that?” She tugged at her hair, bit her lip, looking more annoyed than surprised.

“I just happened to hear it from one of your classmates, so…”

“So, you’re here to pry information out of me? Is she a hypnotist? I can tell by the look of her. It won’t work.” Lu Yun, sitting to one side, gave a slight smile, but Su Ying was not swayed. I didn’t deny her accusation because it was true. Su Ying was quite perceptive.
