Chapter 6: The Smoke
Dong Qin wasn’t sure what she meant to Lu Tuo. A beautiful, cherished doll? A mysterious, silent sister? Or the so-called companion he often mentioned? After that night, he disappeared again, this time for a full half-month. Counting the days, Zuo Shaocin and the others would be back in three or four days. If Zuo Shaocin found out about what had happened between them, would he fly into a rage and really kick her out? Dong Qin thought she hadn’t kept her promise, even though nothing beyond a kiss had happened with Lu Tuo, she had still done something unforgivable with her own brother. Zuo Shaocin must have eyes and ears in the house; she was direct but also meticulous. Dong Qin couldn’t help but feel a bit regretful. If she was to be expelled sooner or later, why didn’t she just be bold with Lu Tuo and do something? Those social norms meant nothing to someone like her; she just wanted a man to hold her, to feel alive at the peak of pleasure.
“We’ll be at the domestic airport at 4:30 PM the day after tomorrow. Do you want any gifts? The fashion and perfumes here in Italy are quite good,” Zuo Shaocin’s voice over the phone sounded normal, with no hint of anger. Dong Qin casually responded, “Nothing I need, no need to trouble yourself.”
“…” There was a brief silence on the other end before Zuo Shaocin suddenly asked, “Where’s Tuo? Xiao Ai said she can’t find him. Is he not with you?”
Dong Qin smiled faintly, “How would I know? I’ve only seen him once this month. Maybe he’s out having fun.”
Zuo Shaocin seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, her tone softening. “Your stepfather seems to have something to discuss with you. Have a chat with him.”
What could Lu Jinghao want with her? Dong Qin was puzzled but still greeted politely, “Hello, Uncle Lu.”
