After half a day of nonsensical banter with Wu Jing, Xiaotang got up, tidied herself up, ate a simple meal, and then headed to the Zhang family’s private residence. She had been there several times before, and each time, the guards at the gate respectfully called her “Miss Fu.” But this time, they changed their address to “Miss.” Fu Xiaotang nodded, feeling a strange sensation, unable to pinpoint exactly what it was. Entering the living room, Zhang Yingdi was not there, only Zhang Rong, who was looking at something. Xiaotang approached quietly, hesitating to greet him. Calling him “Brother Ten” felt awkward, knowing he once was in love with her mother. But calling him something else was even harder. As she hesitated, Zhang Rong looked up as if he had sensed her presence all along, smiling naturally, “Xiaotang, come and look at this photo.” Xiaotang smiled and sat down. Zhang Rong moved the photo album from his lap to hers, pointing at a slightly yellowed but well-preserved photo in the center, softly saying, “Look, this is Fang’er, your mother.” Xiaotang looked at the photo in a daze; it was a group photo of three. Zhang Rong was in the middle, his arms around two girls. The one on the left, with delicate features, was indeed Zhang Yingdi, looking ten times more beautiful than now, while the one on the right, with a stern expression, looked surprisingly familiar. Fu Xiaotang couldn’t help but reach out to gently touch the face, “This is my mom, the one who gave me life.”
