The Enigma Squad

The spirit summoning game had many variations, with different methods for summoning different ghosts. Huang Weihua’s version involved standing before a mirror late at night, lighting two candles on either side, writing one’s name on the mirror with lipstick, and reciting an incantation, with the candles absolutely forbidden from going out.

If a woman with peeling flesh appeared in the mirror, one could start a conversation, ask questions, or make wishes. But if unable to persuade her to leave before the candles extinguished, she would furiously burst from the mirror – and those who saw what happened next were already dead.

These were just rumors, and Luo Yingbai, who could speak to fierce ghosts without such steps, had never personally tried it and didn’t know if they were true.

The school suppressed the news of Huang Weihua’s game, with only a few people knowing. If He Cheng’s classmates hadn’t mentioned it, Luo Yingbai wouldn’t have understood the candles and mirror found at the crime scene.

Fearing further incidents, he planned to try the game in the building. The campus supermarket was closed, so Luo Yingbai rushed to a 24-hour store outside to buy lipstick, then went to the checkout.

Distracted by the earlier strange events, he was surprised when the cashier said “fifteen” and exclaimed, “Lipstick is this cheap?”

Cashier: “…Student, this is a strawberry-flavored lip balm.

We don’t have lipstick.”

Luo Yingbai: “…” Why would a lip balm be strawberry-flavored? It’s not even edible!

A Shadow in the Mirror Flashes, and What Should Have Been a Normal Question-and-Answer Session Suddenly Turns Chaotic. The Ground’s Tomb Suddenly Splits Open, the Candle Extinguishes in an Instant, and a Black Shadow Bursts from the Tomb, Rushing Swiftly Toward Luo Yingbai!

Luo Yingbai could have obliterated this thing with a single move, but before he could comprehend what was happening, unwilling to act rashly, he swiftly dodged. The black shadow missed its target and lunged toward the other end of the corridor.

Luo Yingbai then sensed that someone seemed to be approaching from that direction. Worried about innocent bystanders getting hurt, he was about to make a move when he heard a shout: “Get out of the way!”

All the sinister energy brought by this game vanished without a trace. Luo Yingbai lowered his raised hand, his eyes curving as he smiled and moved aside.
