The Enigma Squad

Luo Ying Bai responded and followed him out the door. Fu Lei watched as Xia Xianning bent down slightly while walking, gently straightening the wrinkled hem of Luo Ying Bai’s clothes.

A few steps later, Luo Xiao suddenly asked, “By the way, who is Sherry?”

Luo Ying Bai was caught off guard and almost missed a step, grabbing the handrail and laughing awkwardly: “Why are you always poking your nose into everything? Dad, I don’t have a car, and since you’re here, let’s go home together.”

Luo Xiao said, “Hmm, we’ll take the car, you can follow behind.”

Luo Ying Bai: “…Can’t you be more serious at your age? Stop joking around.”

Luo Xiao snorted with laughter, slapped Luo Ying Bai, and left with the driver. Xia Xianning pulled Luo Ying Bai back, saying, “The teacher is just teasing you. He has something to do, I’ll take you.”

Luo Ying Bai smiled, “Then wait with me for a minute.”

They stood at the door for a moment, and several young police officers arrived, called by Luo Yingbai’s police report.

The police officers approached after Luo Yingbai waved, asking, “Did you report prostitution here?”

Luo Yingbai said, “Ah, you’re from the anti-vice squad? Yes, these two. I’m not sure who’s the victim or the perpetrator, but they got together. Here’s some evidence.” He produced the red wine bottle given to him by Cheng Yin and handed it over. After confirming the situation, the police immediately went upstairs and arrested Cheng Yin and Fu Lei.

The two looked stunned. Cheng Yin and Fu Lei thought the matter was over, having just blamed each other. But unexpectedly, their misfortune was not over, and they were arrested by the police.

Luo Yingbai’s reason for calling the police was too petty, but they had no way to refute it – even if they could, they didn’t dare to offend this young master.

Fu Lei, being a woman and a person of some status, didn’t want to reveal her identity in this situation. She signaled her subordinates to return to the car. Under everyone’s gaze, she covered her face and got into the police car, planning to have someone bail her out.

Compared to her, Cheng Yin, without background and a public figure, was much more panicked. His emotions seemed out of control as he struggled and said, “Wait, I didn’t do anything… it’s all a misunderstanding…”

Glancing at Luo Yingbai, he rambled, “What do you mean? Why are you arresting me? I was just trying to treat you to a meal. It’s a misunderstanding! It was Fu Lei who set us up…”

Luo Yingbai said leisurely, “What are you talking about? Calling me won’t help if you’ve committed a crime. What does this have to do with me?”

Cheng Yin said, “I didn’t do anything, I don’t know anything, why are you arresting me…”

Luo Yingbai smiled and patted his shoulder, “Because you’re a drama queen.”

A police officer, seeing him causing too much trouble, hit Cheng Yin’s head with a baton and shouted, “Be quiet! Let’s go!”

After Cheng Yin was taken away, Xia Xianning and Luo Yingbai returned to the hotel to investigate carefully. This time, they finally discovered some clues.

The yellow charm Luo Yingbai had thrown at Fu Lei was still lying quietly on the floor, but the entire charm had turned black.

Xia Xianning and Luo Yingbai exchanged a glance. Luo Yingbai ran over and picked up the charm, frowning, “It’s definitely my charm. Could there really be a ghost? Why couldn’t I sense anything?”

Xia Xianning held Luo Yingbai’s wrist for a moment, confirming he was fine before letting go.

He pondered silently, also finding it strange. In terms of seniority, Luo Yingbai was his senior brother, with magical power and sensitivity not inferior to his own. It didn’t make sense that he could sense the yin energy from far away in the bathroom, but Luo Yingbai, being right in the room, didn’t detect any yin presence at all.

Luo Yingbai said gloomily, “Maybe I’m getting old…”

Xia Xianning said, “Look at me.”

When Luo Yingbai turned his head, he saw Xia Xianning holding a ghost-trapping charm, quickly tearing it open almost right in front of his face.

The charm contained a fierce ghost Xia Xianning had casually caught recently. As the charm opened, a blue-faced, fanged ghost rushed out. Luo Yingbai was startled but reacted quickly, waving a silver light that instantly dispersed the ghost.

Xia Xianning examined him: “You seem normal now?”

Luo Yingbai blinked, “Could it be related to my time at the film set?”

Xia Xianning said, “Next time you go to a film set, bring me along.”

Luo Yingbai’s fingers turned the blackened charm to ash, saying casually, “This time it seems to be a bone ghost woman. Even if she hasn’t harmed anyone yet, you should deal with her, right?”

A bone ghost woman is a type of ghost that feeds on human emotions, able to change appearance at will, and likes to take advantage when people are emotionally entangled. Her hunting method is to freeze people and absorb the emotions generated during intimate moments. After succeeding, her prey won’t die but will become vegetative.

When Luo Yingbai and Fu Lei entered the room, they were likely targeted, but since nothing serious happened between them, they weren’t attacked.

Xia Xianning thought about this and felt annoyed, saying while making a phone call, “Songze and A Shou should be on patrol tonight. I’ll have them handle this quickly.”

After making the call, Gou Songze preemptively reported something to Xia Xianning: “Director Xia, I discovered two injured individuals who appear to have been attacked by a bone monster woman. They’ve already been sent to the hospital.”

Xia Xianning immediately responded: “Stay alert. Leave someone on-site to keep watch. I’ll be right there.”

When Luo Mingbai and Xia Xianning arrived, the medical report was already out. Xia Xianning casually handed the notebook of records that Gou Songze passed to Luo Mingbai and asked, “Did you catch the bone monster woman?”

Gou Songze replied, “No, not even a shadow. We found them already unconscious for several hours. Wei Shou is watching over there, so I came back with the team.”

Bone monster women were not common, and two appearing simultaneously was almost unheard of. It seemed likely that the creature had first injured someone and then fled to the hotel, narrowly avoiding a direct confrontation.

“Mark as a priority capture target,” Xia Xianning said, then asked, “Has brain recovery been performed?”

Victims of bone monster women typically suffer spiritual brain damage due to emotional stripping, usually requiring magical repair. Xia Xianning always personally handled this to prevent subordinates from expending magical energy.

Gou Songze shook his head, “No need. They weren’t emotionally stripped.”

Xia Xianning asked, “Why?”

Just then, Gou Songze’s phone rang. He answered while walking, saying, “It’s noted in the records.”

Xia Xianning turned to Luo Mingbai to request the records, noticing Luo Mingbai’s strange expression. He asked, “What’s wrong?”

Luo Mingbai said, “This… is indescribable. See for yourself.”

Xia Xianning looked suspiciously, took the notebook, and his face immediately turned red.

The attack victims were actually a male couple. The bone monster woman’s spirit was yin-based and couldn’t consume their emotions, so after freezing them, she apparently realized her mistake and left. The two victims were fortunate, having escaped disaster.

However, they had chosen a secluded location.

Found unconscious after several hours, they had unclear frost injuries and were discovered in compromising positions. The scene and medical examination photos were clearly enlarged in the records, which was quite embarrassing for Xia Xianning – especially with Luo Mingbai present.
