She wore a bitter smile and shook her head. “What if he doesn’t agree? I must take him away. He’s no match for your An Jin. Staying in Fenzhu would only lead to certain death.” She looked at me again. “Ah Yao, I will do everything to save his life, so—please show mercy this time with An Jin. I swear, as long as I’m in Raozhou, he will never be able to leave a single step, and will pose absolutely no threat to you.”
“Let me talk to him.”
If not for the cold war between me and An Jin, he would have already dealt with Xia Zhiyuan.
By meeting Xia Zhiyuan before him, I wanted to give Yunqiao a chance to protect him.
Xia Zhiyuan was closely guarded by Yunqiao’s people. When he saw me, he appeared quite calm.
“You’ve come to see me in total defeat?”
I shook my head and sat across from him. “You don’t want to die, right?”
He raised an eyebrow and laughed carelessly. “So you’ve come to negotiate. Go ahead, what are your terms?”
“The Absolute Child Wine,” I stared at his face. “Give me the antidote, and I’ll spare your life.”
He was momentarily stunned, then seemed to understand. “So it’s because of this. What’s the big deal? If An Jin can’t have children, can’t he just find another man?”
“Do you really want to die?” I coldly laughed. “Even if Yunqiao protects you, it would be easy for me and An Jin to kill you. If you’re dead, that would be a complete defeat.”
He dropped his smile and sighed. “How could I not want to live? Unfortunately, there is no antidote for the Absolute Child Wine. If you don’t believe me, feel free to take my life.”
This event should have originally been discussed between me and An Jin. After being blocked several times, he gradually stopped making moves. When we occasionally met, he would just hide to the side and look at me resentfully, not daring to act rashly.
After we had been estranged for so long, I couldn’t bring myself to go find him to discuss matters, and we ended up in this awkward, unresolved standoff.
