The King’s Abandoned Concubine

“Mm,” Mei Siyu responded softly, blushing at his suggestion to return to her room. Just moments ago she had been domineering, disciplining her arrogant sister, and now she was completely transformed into a shy young woman.

They walked arm in arm towards Mei Siyu’s side room, occasionally laughing. “Mei Siyu, don’t forget the humiliation you’ve brought upon me today. I, Mei Siyan, swear I will have my revenge!” Mei Siyan stood there, glaring venomously at the intimate couple.

[Main Text: 051 Assassination]

The soldiers outside the carriage were gradually losing their support. The sudden attack by the assassins had crushed their morale, and with the continuous influx of assassins and their powerful killing force, the soldiers had suffered heavy casualties, some overwhelmed by the enemy! Li Weiying was fighting at the forefront, repelling wave after wave of assassins. At first, he could still cope, but when a leading assassin with sharp and swift moves appeared, he was ultimately defeated after several rounds.

Seeing the heavily wounded guards were no longer able to stop the assassins’ attack, Mu Lengchen looked at her and said, “Do not come out, wait for me to return.” Then he leaped out of the carriage and landed steadily beside Li Weiying, his hand already gripping a sharp sword, ready to strike.

Mei Siyu quietly opened a crack, searching for Mu Lengchen’s figure, her heart more worried than afraid.

The black-clothed man’s eyes seemed so familiar, like she had seen him somewhere before, but she couldn’t recall at the moment. However, Mei Siyu was certain she knew this person! She saw Mu Lengchen already engaged in combat with him, both using sharp swords, and for a while, neither could gain the upper hand. With a swift move, Mu Lengchen left a wound on the man’s arm, instantly staining the black clothing with blood.

He glared at Mu Lengchen with angry eyes, pressing his hand on the wound, and said hatefully, “Dog Emperor, come to meet your death!” Gripping his sword, he charged towards Mu Lengchen, intending to kill him, but unexpectedly, at the critical moment, he suddenly turned and withdrew his sword, rushing back towards the carriage!

Mu Lengchen had not anticipated this move. Concerned for Mei Siyu’s safety, he also rushed towards the carriage to block the black-clothed man and prevent him from harming Mei Siyu in the carriage.

Suddenly, another black-clothed person appeared beside the carriage, wielding a knife to strike at Mei Siyu. They were both just a step away from the carriage. Mu Lengchen cried out, “No!” He never expected the assassins would harm Mei Siyu in the carriage. He would have preferred to be the one sitting inside!

The knife fell, and blood splattered on Mu Lengchen’s handsome face. A blood-covered head rolled to his feet. He went berserk, stabbing wildly at the surrounding black-clothed men. Miserable screams echoed through the open forest, startling the birds in the trees.

At that moment, reinforcements finally arrived. Mu Lengchen brought a large group of troops, advancing majestically. The wounded black-clothed men lifted the curtain, saying, “Are you okay? The rescuers have arrived. We’ll meet again!” He glanced at Mei Siyu, wanting to say more but ultimately remaining silent, escaping before being captured.

She was so shocked by the recent events that she couldn’t come to her senses. How could he say such things now? And hadn’t he just saved her life? He seemed different from the person who had tried to kill her! This was truly incomprehensible!

With the arrival of reinforcements, the assassins scattered without a fight. Mu Lengchen approached his eighth brother, saying concernedly, “Your Majesty was startled. This subject was late in rescuing you.” While speaking, his eyes continually scanned the surroundings, hoping Mei Siyu was unharmed.

Mu Lengchen said nothing more, stepping into the carriage to find Mei Siyu sitting safely inside, uninjured. His tense heart finally relaxed. Fortunately, Yuer was safe.

“Chen, are you hurt?” Mei Siyu saw his blood-covered face and asked in panic.

“Yuer, thank heavens you’re safe!” He said, gently kissing her forehead, looking tenderly at the bewildered Mei Siyu, a slight smile on his lips.

Before Mei Siyu could react, Mu Lengchen pulled her into his embrace, passionately kissing the woman he had been thinking of! He now realized how much he cared for Mei Siyu, her safety even more important than his own life! In times of adversity, true feelings are revealed. He now understood how deeply he loved Mei Siyu!

“Sister, are you not injured?” Summer Wan’er asked worriedly from the side, her eyes full of concern. She held a slightly crumpled scroll in her hand.

This is not what Ming Yun meant. It’s a serious matter, and of course we should inquire about it in detail. Noble Concubine, do not overthink,” Ming Leng Yun said with cupped fists, his tone low and gentle.

“Your Majesty, this subordinate believes that this matter requires careful consideration and must not be decided rashly!” Ming Leng Yun turned to Ming Leng Chen standing nearby and advised earnestly. He felt something was suspicious – even if Shu Fei was foolish, she would not have left such evidence in someone else’s hands. If she were to do something, she would do it cleanly and leave no proof!

“From now on, no one is permitted to plead for them. Anyone who speaks will be killed without mercy!” Ming Leng Chen left these harsh words, sweeping his sleeves as he walked to the carriage, holding Mei Si Yu’s hand. The two entered the carriage one after another, while Xia Wan’er stood blankly to the side.

“Wan’er, why are you standing there? Come up,” Mei Si Yu said caringly, lifting the carriage curtain.

Wan’er was stunned at first, but seeing his slight nod and receiving Ming Leng Chen’s permission, she dared to board the carriage. She sat beside Mei Si Yu, while Ming Leng Chen sat on the opposite side. Soon, the carriage moved forward, with only Mei Si Yu and Wan’er talking. He remained unusually quiet, his thick eyebrows slightly furrowed, lips tightly pressed, with no trace of a smile – causing one to feel intimidated!

The group finally returned to the palace safely. Those who needed treatment were treated, those who deserved a grand burial were buried – all arranged by Li Wei Ying, who, though injured himself, was most suitable to handle the matter since those who died were his subordinates.

Shortly after returning to the palace, they were summoned to the Empress Dowager’s chambers.

“My child, come closer to your mother,” the Empress Dowager said urgently to Ming Leng Chen, having heard about the assassination attempt that nearly claimed his life.

“Mother, do not worry. Your son is perfectly fine,” Ming Leng Chen sat beside her, offering comfort.

“This concubine, Yu’er, and Wan’er pay respects to the Empress Dowager. May you have great fortune,” they bowed in greeting.

“Mm, be seated. Yun’er, come sit by me,” the Empress Dowager said impatiently, not even glancing at the two women, but softening her tone when speaking to Ming Leng Yun – a contrast anyone could detect. The two women, though unwilling, respectfully sat down, concealing their displeasure.

“My child, I heard you encountered assassins on your return, and fortunately Yun’er arrived in time to save you. Is this true?” the Empress Dowager asked softly, looking at her beloved sons with maternal love.

“Mother, it is true. We owe much to Wan’er,” Ming Leng Chen replied, casting an unreadable glance at Xia Wan’er.

The narrative continues with complex interactions between the characters, revealing political intrigue, personal tensions, and underlying emotional conflicts within the imperial court.
