The Trials of Rebirth

Otherwise, why would he be willing to send me to the ghost realm to be tormented by these two brothers? And with his current attitude, would he let me be with Mu Chuan once I found the mastermind?

The Great Pancake God was quite enlightened.

I had heard from the Yaochi High God that long ago, when the High God was still young and handsome, he had fallen in love with a mortal woman. Unfortunately, during one of the numerous god-ghost wars, the High God returned after leading the battle, only to find the woman had exhausted her life force and reincarnated. Since then, when god nobles fell in love with mortals, they were not interfered with.

When Mu Chuan walked over, I immediately said, “I’m clean!”

He glanced at me: “Ready to be eaten?”

I choked.

He smiled faintly: “What are you thinking about so deeply?”

Seeing his tone was calm without anger, I said, “There’s actually another very important task for retrieving the memories.”

He asked casually, “What?”

I thought for a moment, then asked, “Do you really believe I sent people to ambush and kill you back then?”

His expression paused, his pale eyes looking at me: “Why ask this suddenly?”

“Because the High God suspects someone instigated conflict between us, and those people weren’t actually my planted agents. Retrieving the memories might help find the mastermind.”

Mu Chuan suddenly laughed, looking completely at peace: “Whether it was me or not, I no longer care.”

“I care,” I said, lowering my eyes and twisting my fingers, “Though I’m not sure what exactly I’m caring about.”

“Why not let it go? Keeping it in your heart is too exhausting.”

I looked at him curiously and with some admiration. He was truly someone who could let go and abandon grudges.

“Any discomfort entering the ghost realm?”

I took several deep breaths and shook my head: “No. The High God gave me a pill before coming. After taking it, spiritual energy circulates in my body. It’s probably because of that.”

Mu Chuan smiled, then pondered: “Seems I’ll have a good doctor soon.”

I laughed with him, but in my mind flashed the image of that beautiful woman: “What about the peony?”

He paused for a moment: “We’ll talk about it later.”
