Floating Cloud paused for a moment, then yawned: “I belong to both of you.”
Huh, that sounds strange. It’s like when divorced parents ask their child to choose. I twitched my mouth. Clearly, a divine object reflects its master’s character, equally shameless.
Floating Cloud carried me for half a day before finally reaching the cliff bottom.
Standing beneath the cliff, I looked up. The complex, intertwined branches blocked my view, seeming endless. It felt like watching countless stars fall in a dark night. Such a deep cliff, driven to jump by a close friend – her body might not have shattered, but her heart surely did.
I shook my head and continued walking.
Passing a small path through the forest, I saw a shallow river. Across the river was a narrow, simple wooden house.
A woman in coarse clothing walked from afar, squatting by the clear riverbank as dusk faded and night approached in the dim light.
She carefully washed the fruits in her arms, not even waiting for them to dry before eating. She ate extremely slowly and seriously, as if what she was consuming was not food, but something sacred.
I gazed carefully at her face, delicate and serene. Her eyes, though not dazzling, were clear and bright, yet carried an unavoidable heaviness. Her clothes, faded from frequent washing, were still clean.
Is this Liu Banxia, the person forced by her friend to hide at the bottom of a cliff? I lifted my skirt and waded through the water, walking step by step until I stood before her, close enough to see her eyes more clearly. Lonely, yet sharp like a hawk’s gaze. I bent down, cupping water in my palm, scooping up the silvery liquid under the moonlight, which splashed back into the river.
Liu Banxia did not show the expected terror, only a slight surprise. She frowned, watching the water rise and fall back into the river. I slowly revealed myself, my hands still crossed in my wide sleeves, staring steadily at her.
Liu Banxia suddenly leaped back like a startled rabbit, drawing her blade and retreating three zhang away, her eyes glinting with cold light: “Who are you?” I smiled and said, “I am the Reincarnation Lord from the divine realm. The reincarnation you sought has been received.”
