The Undead

There weren’t many zombies in the lobby. A few family members of pregnant women were sent to the afterlife before they could react. Only the two nurses behind the front desk reacted violently, shrieking and swaying as they chased out, seemingly displeased with these unexpected intruders.

Guo Weixiang turned and shot them down, shouting, “Si Xiaonan!”

The escape team was panicked but orderly, quickly following Si Nan up the stairs: “What?”

“Haven’t you noticed! Although Brother Rong is usually neurotic and not quite normal!”

Si Nan: “…”

“But his intelligence is actually quite high—!”

Si Nan: “………………”

Si Nan continued moving, using his assault rifle to shoot back the zombies swarming the corridor, causing brief screams from the survivors.

But no one stumbled or caused chaos. They quickly regrouped, protecting the women and children in the middle, and continued rushing upstairs.

“Look!” Guo Weixiang proudly shouted, “Everyone’s survival skills were trained by him! The team formation was arranged by him!”

How foresighted! Don’t you feel a bit proud?”

“—Absolutely!” the driver uncle agreed while running. “Captain Zhou is capable!”

Wu Xinyan: “He’s a good person!”

Guo Weixiang: “Would you marry him if he proposed?”

“…” Si Nan muttered, “I really want to leave you all behind.”

Over ten doctors and nurses burst out of the rest station, each holding blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes, and surgical forceps, shrieking as they rushed toward the corridor. Si Nan reacted incredibly quickly, first shooting down the leading zombies, then picking off a few more. However, several attending physicians maintained agile movements and impact resistance, screaming as they charged forward. Si Nan kicked them in the chest one by one and then twisted off their heads.

“You’re too violent,” Guo Weixiang complained.

Si Nan: “Just work. Doctors are high-income…”

Guo Weixiang: “You don’t understand, Comrade Si! Don’t talk nonsense! Five-year bachelor’s, three-year residency—”

“Two years of specialized training, basically no money!” Dr. Zheng roared.

Dr. Zheng climbed the stairs, panting heavily.

After surgery, you deal with medical disputes, always risking being attacked.

With a loud bang, Si Nan pushed open the rooftop door, feeling a headache: “Sorry, okay?”

Guo Weixiang cleared out the few zombies following them. Everyone reached the rooftop, quickly closing and locking the iron door.

“Safe!” he shouted. “Mission accomplished!”

Si Nan surveyed the gradually darkening sky, pressing the ruby earring, feeling the rice-grain-sized button gently press inward.

The group sat down to rest, not even minding the strong wind.

“Good job,” Guo Weixiang walked forward, overlooking the hospital surroundings. “Now let’s calmly wait for Brother Rong to pick us up… hm? Is that the pharmacy?”

Behind the hospital was a construction site, seemingly abandoned. Behind the site, across a small path, through bare winter branches, a corner of the “People’s Pharmacy” green sign was visible.

Guo Weixiang estimated the distance and felt it was feasible, taking a deep breath: “I’ll go take a look.”

Si Nan glanced at him.

“What?” Guo Weixiang was sensitive.

“…” Si Nan slowly said, “I thought you really liked him…”

“Ah, not really,” Guo Weixiang paused, self-deprecatingly. “There’s physical attraction, but mostly I just wanted to be in a relationship. I can’t say I truly like him… you understand? If he doesn’t like me, it’s fine. It’s not like I must be in a relationship.”

Si Nan politely said, “Congratulations on your heartbreak, you’re a good person.”

Guo Weixiang touched his nose, pulling out Zhou Rong’s high-tech 118 grappling gun from his tactical backpack, instructing: “I’ll be right back, maximum five minutes. Give me your spare bullets. Stay here and keep watch.”

Si Nan reluctantly agreed, watching him shoot the rope into the ground and slide down to the sidewalk, sprinting across the construction site, agile and swift, disappearing into the pharmacy in a flash.

At 5:30 PM, the sky was gloomy, and cold winds howled.

Dark clouds gathered and churned at the horizon’s edge.

Si Nan frowned, wondering why his eyelids suddenly twitched twice. Then he saw two barely noticeable small black dots in the distant sky.

—Helicopters!

Si Nan immediately pressed the positioning device again. The group behind him stood up, discussing and releasing relieved, joyful shouts.

Just then, gunshots erupted in the distance. Si Nan suddenly looked down, seeing the pharmacy window explode. Guo Weixiang, covered in glass shards, burst out frantically.

Two seconds later, a group of zombies followed, charging down the street in full force!

How could there be so many in the pharmacy? Nan’s heart skipped a beat, grabbing the climbing rope, but he only heard Guo Weixiang shout without looking back: “I can handle it! Don’t come down! Stay up there!”

Guo Weixiang sprinted into the construction site, leaping over piles of sand and gravel, leaving the zombies far behind, and then heading towards the pedestrian walkway by the hospital’s back door with the climbing rope.

However, he made a mistake at this moment.

Between the construction site and the hospital’s back door, there was a brick wall with a door in the corner for people to pass through.

Guo Weixiang had originally entered through the door, but perhaps wanting to save time or overly confident in his abilities, when he reached the wall, he jumped up without thinking and kicked hard—

Eighty kilograms of body weight plus forty kilograms of equipment, combined with a force that could split gold and shatter stones.

The temporary brick wall at the construction site collapsed under the impact.

Guo Weixiang was caught off guard, buried under the bricks along with his equipment!

Nan was completely surprised, not even reacting for the first two seconds, until he heard Dr. Zheng cry out: “Oh no!

The zombies, attracted by fresh blood, stumbled into the construction site, gradually moving towards the brick wall. Guo Weixiang struggled to climb, emerging bloodied from the pile of bricks, about to be caught by the zombies.

Nan pulled out a pistol from his thigh holster and tossed it to Dr. Zheng, grabbed the climbing rope, and succinctly said: “Protect the civilians.”

Dr. Zheng hastily took the gun. In the blink of an eye, Nan had disappeared, then reappeared on the pedestrian walkway below, rushing directly towards the construction site.

“What are you doing!” Guo Weixiang gasped, as Nan grabbed his hand and pulled him out without hesitation.

At this critical moment of escape, Nan showed no mercy. However, as he exerted force, Guo Weixiang suddenly let out a painful scream: “—Ah!”

“What’s wrong?”

Guo Weixiang’s face was deathly pale, with sweat rolling like beads, and he shook his head while enduring the pain: “Never mind, hurry!”

Nan shot down zombies within twenty meters, forcefully pulling Guo Weixiang out of the brick debris. His leg was covered in blood, with his ankle bent at an odd angle—dislocated.

The two coordinated seamlessly. Nan stood up and shot at the zombies, while Guo Weixiang sat down, grabbed his ankle, and with a “crack!”, relocated it.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m fine! Run!”

Anxious voices from the rooftop shouted: “Hurry!” “Quick!”

“Over here!”

Nan supported the sweat-covered Guo Weixiang with one hand, shooting at the approaching zombie horde with the other, moving towards the hospital’s back door. However, with his recently dislocated ankle, Guo Weixiang could barely move. Zombies from the pharmacy were chasing them, and other zombies from nearby streets were also attracted by the Alpha pheromones in the blood.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang Bang!
