The Undead

“The next day when I left Los Angeles, I returned to that forest, picked up your scarf, and have kept it ever since.”

Luo Mu’er removed the scarf from his neck, staring into Si Nan’s calm, waveless eyes at close range: “I deliberately brought it with me this time before coming to China because I knew an unprecedented disaster had begun, and humans might be extinct from the Earth. So on this day when we reunite in the apocalypse, are there still opportunities to go back to things that hadn’t yet begun and start over again?

Luo Mu’er whispered, “After developing the vaccine, humans will establish the final safety fortress. I promise all painful memories will become memories, and I will let you live a good life.”

“Truly,” he said solemnly, “as long as you believe in me.”

After a long silence, Si Nan softly said, “I have never believed in you.”

“I know,” Luo Mu’er paused, then countered, “But those things you thought would last forever have ultimately changed, haven’t they?”

Si Nan raised his right hand, touching the frayed edges of the scarf worn for years.

Luo Mu’er looked at him, his eyes full of encouragement.

“…” Si Nan suddenly smiled slightly.

The smile was weak but carried an unmistakable strange meaning, then he shook his head.

“What?” Luo Mu’er couldn’t help but ask.

“I don’t remember,” Si Nan said with a smile, “But I’m not the type to do such things, especially not to you.”

“So either you’re lying…”

“I’m not!”

“Is that so?” Si Nan said lazily.

Luo Mu’er suddenly stood up, his face a mix of red and pale; however, before he could say anything, Si Nan’s last sentence became the fuse that ignited his anger:

“You’re too sentimental, ‘brother’,” Si Nan said sympathetically, “Just like your father was to my mother… she never even gave him a second glance until her death.”

A sharp, modulated roar suddenly erupted in the room: “Jian!”

The female Alpha quickly pushed open the door, seeing her superior standing by the bed, turning back with pupils completely transformed into a gloomy and terrifying deep gray.

“Confession serum,” he gritted out, his anger making each word chilling:

“…bring in all the confession serum!

Zhou Rong shifted his gun barrel left, aligning the sight with Romuel’s leg, his index finger on the trigger.

—But at that moment, the female Alpha suddenly roared: “What’s going on!”

Zhou Rong turned his head.

Si Nan suddenly convulsed while unconscious, letting out a terrifying beast-like whimper, and violently fell to the ground.

He had been fasting for nearly forty-eight hours, his bodily functions weakened to the extreme. This struggle was so powerful that even Abbas couldn’t stop him, catching him off guard and causing him to fall, immediately shouting: “Quick, help!”

Romuel and Jian rushed forward. Abbas grabbed Si Nan’s arm and flung it, the sound of a dislocated elbow clearly heard.

However, Si Nan seemed to have lost all sense of pain, and this heart-rending agony didn’t slow his movements at all; in the blink of an eye, he used the twisted elbow posture to leap onto Abbas’s back, his other elbow viciously striking the opponent’s cervical vertebra.

Abbas screamed in pain, throwing Si Nan away.

At that instant, Zhou Rong pulled the trigger three times.

The first bullet directly hit Abbas’s calf, causing the muscular man to crash to the ground.

The second bullet struck the female Alpha’s shoulder, sending her gun flying before she could pull the trigger.

The third bullet flew midair, with Romuel spinning around lightning-fast, unleashing a barrage of bullets toward Zhou Rong’s hiding spot.

Zhou Rong swiftly dodged, with brick wall debris scattering everywhere.

“Over there!” Romuel shouted, suppressing Zhou Rong with high-powered fire while striding toward the brick wall.

“Sir!” Jian’s ear-splitting scream erupted: “Come back! He’s out of control!”

Si Nan stood up shakily, his pupils extremely dilated, eyes filled with blood vessels, his pale face making him look like a mad zombie; he moved his elbow back in place, staring directly at Abbas.

A growl slowly emerged from his chest—the sound like a death cry of a trapped beast.

Kill them, a voice echoed in his mind.

Everyone had transformed into blurry zombies, with overdose-induced hallucinations flashing before his eyes, unable to distinguish faces.

Kill them.

Everything moving was a zombie. Kill them.

Abbas felt a chill, taking two steps back as Si Nan charged forward with explosive force, punching him backward!

The female Alpha cursed and rushed toward Si Nan, clutching her shoulder.

Zhou Rong leaped onto the wall, pinning down Romuel. Bullets grazed past his carotid artery as both knocked away each other’s guns, creating bullet holes across the ground and walls!

Zhou Rong pressed his elbow against Romuel’s throat, shouting: “Si Nan!”

Si Nan looked up.

At that moment, Zhou Rong saw his gaze, and his heart sank.

Si Nan’s gaze was unfocused, veins protruding, his body wasted and deformed, looking even more terrifying than that day at the construction site.

—Si Nan didn’t recognize him.

His look toward Zhou Rong was no different from how he looked at the other three Alphas.

Only saw Si Nan not running but wrestling with Abbas. Si Nan, like a thin youth, unexpectedly burst out an unimaginable limit of strength, grabbing Abbas’s gun-holding hand and pulling the trigger, a stream of bullets spraying out, shattering the glass window and violently shaking the tree branches.

The female Alpha cursed from behind the wall, struggling to expose her gun barrel, aiming at Si Nan.

Zhou Rong’s lightning-fast shot hit the female Alpha’s wrist as she cried out in pain!

He knew he had only one bullet left, Zhou Rong realized clearly.

He aimed at Abbas, but Si Nan’s furious figure kept flashing in his sight. Zhou Rong hesitated to pull the trigger when suddenly a wind rushed behind his head. He dodged, and at the same time, bullets kicked up dust on the ground right behind his feet.

It was Rommel!

Zhou Rong cursed and pulled the trigger in mid-air.

The last bullet beautifully pierced through the AK47’s bullet screen, like a venomous fang penetrating Rommel’s abdomen, drawing a line of blood!

Rommel covered his gunshot wound and staggered down.

Zhou Rong shouted: “Si Nan!”

With the mad gunfire stopping, Si Nan had forcibly emptied Abbas’s submachine gun. The latter kicked him to the ground, his fist striking Si Nan until he spat blood, and before the second punch could land, Zhou Rong had arrived, grabbing Abbas’s hair and flipping him over, striking with his fists!

The strong man roared and struggled, but Zhou Rong gave him no chance to breathe. His knuckles struck – the first blow breaking Abbas’s nasal bone, the second shattering teeth, the third causing his chest bone to collapse!

Zhou Rong kicked Abbas over, his face full of ferocity, his eyes revealing cold bloodiness.

He took a breath, trying to adjust his expression and turned around.

Si Nan had already gotten up, retreating several steps, back pressed against the courtyard wall, body slightly bent – Zhou Rong immediately recognized why.

Not because of being unable to stand straight after long-term fasting and being beaten, but the posture of a trapped beast, full of vigilance and hatred.

Zhou Rong slowly shook his head, spreading his hands to show they were empty: “Si Nan.”

Si Nan remained silent, warily narrowing his eyes.

Here is the edited article:

“Come here, Si Nan, I won’t hurt you,” Zhou Rong stepped forward half a step, voice trembling: “Rong-ge didn’t abandon you, look, I’ve come to take you.”

A zombie is walking forward, Si Nan thought.
