The Undead

Yan Hao made a gesture, pointing to his earring, then pointing forward to a certain place. Guo Weixiang nodded silently, understanding his meaning—the positioning device had received a signal, and Si Nan was nearby. The guards’ footsteps gradually faded, and Yan Hao and Guo Weixiang exchanged a glance, darting out from the corridor’s corner and moving swiftly along the wall’s base. Their equipment weighed over thirty kilograms, but their steps were almost inaudible. Passing through several corridors, the positioning device’s vibration became increasingly clear, finally emitting a slight “Beep—” at the end of a long underground passageway.

Under the dim emergency lights, a dark alloy door was hidden in the shadows. Yan Hao gently knocked on the door, with intervals of three long and two short pauses between each knock. Instantly, a voice came from inside: “Zhou Rong!”

“…” Yan Hao covered his face under Guo Weixiang’s sympathetic gaze: “It’s me, Yan Hao.” Si Nan: “…” “Who’s there!” “Don’t move, hands up!”

Angry guards’ shouts suddenly erupted from the corridor’s end, and Yan Hao was extremely surprised: “No way? Why am I so unlucky?” He then instructed Guo Weixiang: “Open this door!”

Yan Hao fired shots, and several guards scattered to avoid them, instantly engaging in gunfire!

Guo Weixiang searched everywhere for the lock, but the alloy door seemed embedded in the brickwork, smooth and seamless, with only a fingerprint-controlled switch on the wall beside the door frame. With the urgent situation, it was impossible to find someone with the matching fingerprint. Guo Weixiang swiftly pulled out a hand grenade from his tactical backpack, shouting: “Si Nan! Step back!”

Boom! Bricks splattered, dust flew, and the entire experimental hall trembled, with a half-person-wide gap blasted between the alloy door and the wall. Si Nan helplessly rubbed his forehead, pushing Dr. Zheng out through the gap before crawling out himself, hearing Guo Weixiang’s surprised loud voice: “Dr. Zheng? What are you doing here?”

Dr. Zheng: “It’s my fault, I…”

Si Nan firmly stated: “Stop asking! He was kidnapped!”

Several bullets hit the wall, creating dazzling sparks in the darkness. Yan Hao quickly fired a burst of bullets, shouting: “Hurry! There’s a top-level alert outside, the base is surrounded by zombies!”

Guo Weixiang pushed Si Nan and Dr. Zheng into cover, braving the bullet rain and rushing forward, raising a mini submachine gun to join the battle. With his fire support, Yan Hao’s pressure immediately eased, and the guards at the other end of the corridor were quickly overwhelmed and fled.

Guo Weixiang chased after them.

“Wait! Xiangzi!

” Suddenly, Yan Hao glimpsed the guards running into the next corridor, turning to press a button on the wall before throwing something that rolled across the floor. Without thinking, Yan Hao lunged: “Watch out!” A loud bang, and Guo Weixiang was tackled to the ground by Yan Hao! At the same time, the object stopped rolling, resting a few meters in front of Guo Weixiang. A hand grenade?! In an instant, Guo Weixiang’s heart almost stopped, with only one feeling in his consciousness—Yan Hao was protecting him with his own body. The next second, the hand grenade began to leak: “Hiss…” ”Damn!” Yan Hao coughed violently: “Tear gas!” Whether this homemade tear gas was something made by Ning Yu’s “five elements deficiency,” yellow-green gas instantly sprayed out, quickly spreading through the entire passageway. Yan Hao and Guo Weixiang, closest to the source, were immediately hit by the irritant gas, unable to even stand. Si Nan covered his mouth and nose, rushing to the corridor’s end with leopard-like speed, but it was too late. He heard a loud clang in front of him— A heavy metal grille descended from above, stopping right at the tip of Si Nan’s nose, sealing off the long passageway! The guards quickly retreated on the other side of the grille, and Si Nan instinctively reached for his gun, but grabbed only air—he had no weapon. ”Give me a gun!” he roared, but one look told him it was impossible.

Yan Hao and Guo Weixiang were in the center of the tear gas leak, completely covered by yellow-green gas.

People often go blank and unable to think in urgent moments, but some people think faster in critical situations. Si Nan belonged to the latter type.

He stretched his hand through the grille’s gaps, feeling the switch box on the wall outside. This design was different from domestic research institute security measures, likely added by Ning Yu when renovating the laboratory. Si Nan had a vague sense of familiarity, realizing he had seen something similar before.

After escaping White Eagle Base, Ning Yu had brought some design concepts back to this secret underground experimental site.

If it was circuit-controlled, the metal grille would fall when power was connected, so cutting the power would…

The yellow-green gas crept forward, Si Nan coughing violently, dizzy and disoriented, gritting his teeth and smashing the switch box behind him!

Because of the angle of vision, he couldn’t see the switch, but his familiarity from countless encounters since childhood meant he didn’t need to look with his eyes. At the critical moment, Si Nan’s fingers precisely pulled out a wire from inside the wall and instantly tore it apart.

Zila!

Electric sparks crackled and flashed, sending Si Nan flying backward!

Zheng’s earlier comments, keeping the focus on the group’s current condition and recovery.

The team managed to stabilize themselves, slowly getting back on their feet. Si Nan led them further down the corridor, ensuring that they remained cautious of any further dangers ahead.

Dr. Zheng, still visibly shaken, took charge of assessing their injuries while Ning Yu began gathering supplies to aid their recovery. The atmosphere was tense but focused as they prepared for the challenges that lay ahead.

As they moved forward, the remnants of the toxic gas lingered, yet the team pressed on, determined not to let the earlier incident define their mission.

Zheng’s betrayal of spraying ether, focusing on Ning Yu’s experimental progress and his guesses about the serum.

Guo Weixiang, having finally finished vomiting, exhaustedly wiped his mouth and sat on the ground, angrily cursing: “This psychopath, absolutely…”

Si Nan stood up supporting himself against the wall and stretched his ankle: “But now it’s too late, you’ve damaged several of his precision instruments. Prepare to be beaten by Zhou Rong when we go back.”

“…,” Guo Weixiang replied weakly.

Yan Hao lay flat on the ground, unable to move, staring at the dark ceiling, weakly ordering: “Good, when we retreat, we must take Ning Yu with us. Also, protect Si Nan. No more heart-stopping plays like touching electrified switches… You can’t play like that, we’re counting on you to save the world.”

This was originally an exciting piece of news, but with Ning Yu’s nasty tear gas bomb, everyone could barely muster the energy to speak.

Si Nan supported himself along the corridor, going to the laboratory to collect all possible materials and documents. Others rested in place for a few minutes, only standing up and preparing their weapons when Si Nan returned.

“Ning Yu is definitely still on this floor.

We’ll find him, take him, and go up to meet the others,” Yan Hao stamped his numb foot and said: “The captain and others should be fighting zombies outside. We’ll try to capture Chen Yashen and then support them. Any objections?”

No one objected. Guo Weixiang suddenly said thoughtfully: “Team Flower.”

Yan Hao: “…”

“I didn’t know you loved me so much, thinking it was a grenade, risking your life to throw yourself over to protect me…” Guo Weixiang emotionally wiped his nose, moving to hug Yan Hao: “Wuwuwu, Team Flower, you’re so good, I’m actually…”
