The Undeserved Joy

These words cleared any misunderstandings from onlookers. She turned to the man and bowed slightly, “Sir, my husband was just joking. Please don’t take offense. The silver note is indeed as you said, with a broken seal. It seems you have urgent matters, shall you be on your way?”

“Yes!”

Taking the silver note, the man sighed in relief. Seeing the elegant and beautiful lady, he blushed and quickly returned the bow: “I’m Shen Kuang. Thank you, madam and sir. May the green mountains remain unchanged, and the waters continue to flow. I’ll properly thank you next time!” He bowed and quickly ran off.

Seeing the main character had left, the crowd that had gathered dispersed uninterestedly.

“Husband?”

Lifting her head, Qu Xiaojue grabbed his arm but didn’t move, meeting his inexplicable smile, which made her feel frustrated. Xu Wanzhi looked at her, widened his smile, and shook his head as he walked forward.

This infuriated her! What was that expression?

“Please don’t fuss. Let him enjoy his time with me,” Xu Wanzhi interjected with a warm smile, pulling An’er closer.

Qu Xiaojue sighed but let it go, appreciating the bond they shared. Just then, a servant shouted from the courtyard, “The delivery man has arrived with the new furniture!”

Qu Xiaojue raised an eyebrow; they’d been awaiting this delivery for weeks. “Let’s go see,” she suggested, her mood picked up by the anticipation.

They all moved towards the courtyard, filled with excitement as the servant led them to the new pieces on display: a beautifully crafted wooden table, accompanied by grand chairs that seemed to fit perfectly with their style.

“Look at this craftsmanship!” Xu Wanzhi remarked, examining the intricate designs.

Qu Xiaojue nodded, her expression thoughtful. “We should arrange them in the main hall to showcase them properly.”

As they discussed arrangements, the atmosphere was lively, filled with laughter and the sound of furniture being moved around. An’er and Qi’er played nearby with the wrapping materials, their imaginations running wild.

Later that evening, the family gathered around the table. Qu Xiaojue set the dishes, and as they sat down to eat, the warmth of the gathering enveloped them.

“Family time is the best,” Xu Wanzhi said with a content smile, looking around at their happy faces.
