The Villain’s Daughter is Four and a Half

In the chaotic and noisy footage, the sun was shining brightly. Jiang Baiyuan, holding a stack of missing person notices in one hand and glue in the other, was posting the notices. He looked exhausted; his handsome face was sunburned, sweat dripped from his forehead, and his shirt was soaked through on his back. Some idle young thugs scoffed, “Just for show! People these days will do anything for fame!” There were also shop owners who tore down the notices he had just posted, shouting, “Hey, hey, don’t stick those on my wall!” Yet, a kind-hearted young woman handed him a bottle of mineral water, offering words of encouragement: “Keep going. You’ll definitely find her.” In just a few minutes of video, the complexities of human nature and the warmth of the world were captured. After watching, Ruyi felt quite sorry for him: “Daddy, is it really hard to find Mommy?”

Hard work was indeed hard, but he relished it. Thus, he smiled gently: “It’s not hard. Ruyi, Daddy will definitely bring Mommy back.” Ruyi bit her lip, lowering her head, unable to meet his fervent gaze. She actually wanted to dissuade him because she knew, according to the plot, he wouldn’t find her. But she couldn’t; as a daughter, it was natural to hope for Mommy’s return. Where was Xu Xiangying? Why did she suddenly disappear? Was the woman she saw before the car accident her? Various doubts flashed through her mind. She bit her spoon, furrowing her brows like a thinker, which, combined with her childish appearance, was quite amusing. Jiang Baiyuan laughed, couldn’t help but tap her little nose: “What’s our little Ruyi thinking about? Look at those wrinkles, they’re like little caterpillars.”

Ruyi: “…” What does “like little caterpillars” even mean? Was this simile taught by a gym teacher? She didn’t like hearing it, and while scooping the wontons with her spoon, she pouted: “I’m thinking about something important, Daddy, don’t distract me.” Jiang Baiyuan, seeing her acting older than her age, played along and asked, “What important thing is our little Ruyi thinking about?” She made a mysterious gesture: “It’s a secret. But Daddy can guess.”
