”Looking for these?” He bent down and picked up the shoes, speaking with a smile.
Her movements were too obvious – either she had bugs on her body or was searching for shoes under the table.
He figured it was the latter, so thoughtfully resolved her embarrassment, though her awkward expression didn’t seem very grateful.
”Th-thank you.” Would she ever stop embarrassing herself in front of him?
”You’re welcome.” He placed the shoes on the table and took the preserved fruit from her hand, “I’ve earned the right to eat one, right?”
She nodded, quickly grabbing the shoes and sitting to put them on, saying, “But it’s very…”
”Sour,” he wrinkled his brow, completing her sentence, “Good heavens, do women eat such things?”
It was so sour it was about to rot his teeth; if he’d known, he definitely wouldn’t have put two in his mouth at once.
Seeing his scrunched-up features, she couldn’t help but laugh, “Very brave, but too impulsive. You should have first asked me what it was.”
”Here, take it back. Next time remember to warn me, I don’t eat sour things.”
She smiled slightly, “Anything else to discuss? Boss?”
”Yes. Call me Nanyu!”
”Is that appropriate?” It seemed too intimate. “Sir” maintained a polite distance and reminded her that he was just her client, nothing more.
”I don’t think there’s anything wrong with calling me by my name,” he said sincerely. “Aren’t names meant to be used?”
”But it’s not polite for me to call you directly by name.”
He looked hurt, “I thought we were friends?”
”Uh… you’re my client.” Friends? What kind of friends? He was her client; she didn’t know how they could become friends.
”Can’t clients become friends? Especially when we have the same goal, perhaps ‘partners’ would be more appropriate.”
They would inevitably have to work together on transforming Xue Ye, and his bet with Qin Weilun was another matter entirely.
”I insist that you call me Nanyu, okay, Xingcan?”
He called her name so gently, as if they’d known each other for years, as if he understood her, which made her heart unexpectedly beat faster.
”If you insist.” He was a major client; she had no reason to refuse his request.
