The Wary Affections of The CEO

”Xueye, I’m here to take over!”

A light voice rang out, and Yuan Xingcan saw a thin, tall boy with black-rimmed glasses and a refined appearance walking over.

”Great, I’m almost starving,” Ke Xueye said: “Xingcan, this is Zhu Ping’an, a social worker at the hospital. Ping’an, this is my ‘teacher’ Yuan Xingcan.”

”Hello,” Xingcan smiled and nodded politely, “Your name sounds very reassuring.”

He grinned: “Yes, Zhu Ping’an, wishing people peace.”

Ke Xueye hooked her arm, “Let’s go, I’ll leave him in charge here.”

”Okay.” She smiled at him: “Nice to meet you.”

”The honor is mine.” He waved to them, watching the two girls walk towards the building.

Ke Xueye looked back at him, and Yuan Xingcan asked: “Did you forget something?”

  ”No, no.”

”Oh, that’s good.” But she denied it too quickly, which made Xingcan feel strange. Why did she keep looking back at Zhu Ping’an?

Thursday night, as always, a whole room of darkness greeted him.

Xueye, who was always at home, was not here today. He was long accustomed to turning on the lights himself when he returned home. So now, seeing the soft light flowing from the floor-to-ceiling window, he felt a warmth in his heart.

Hearing the car, Yuan Xingcan opened the glass window and waved to him standing on the porch, “You’re back?”

She was about to have a good talk with him. She had been here for so many days but hadn’t done any work.

Although she had taken Xueye shopping for a few outfits in the afternoon, it could hardly be considered work.

Her “You’re back” made Ke Nanyu’s heart warm. Since his mother passed away, no one had spoken to him like that.

  ”Mm, I’m back.”

”Xueye is still at the hospital.” She felt the need to explain why she wasn’t with Xueye, not wanting him to think she was irresponsible. “I want to talk to you, and it’s less convenient with Xueye around, so I came back to wait for you.”

”Why not come to the office?”

Fortunately, he had canceled that dinner, otherwise she might have waited until the middle of the night.

She smiled, “Not important enough to disturb you.”

”Your visit is never a disturbance to me.”

Yuan Xingcan felt awkward, his words once again accelerating her weak heartbeat.
