Nelly quickened her pace, hurriedly entering the room and throwing the remaining reference books and daily necessities into a box. She glanced at the bed to ensure nothing was left, then took the key and closed the door.
She ran with her suitcase to the dormitory building’s entrance, where Karl emerged from behind the stone wall, taking her suitcase with one hand; he touched her left hand that had been pulling the suitcase and furrowed his brow, asking: “Cold?”
Naily hadn’t even answered when he tucked her hand into his coat pocket. Karl’s body temperature was always slightly lower than normal, but the pocket was warm. Naily slightly turned her fingertips and felt a heated non-woven bag – a hand warmer he had apparently bought from the convenience store earlier. She looked up and gave a silly smile, which made him pause; immediately feeling her behavior was childishly inappropriate, she stiffened her face and looked down.
Naily slightly turned her head, peeking at the person beside her, meeting his eyes directly. He seemed surprised she was looking at him, softening the corners of his eyes and lowering his eyelashes. Blushing, she looked ahead and said evasively: “I’ll call a taxi home. Just send me to the car.”
“Okay,” Karl agreed, raising his hand to hail a cab. Soon an empty taxi stopped before Naily. Karl first stuffed the hand warmer into her hand, then bent to help load her suitcase into the trunk, thoughtfully glancing at the license plate. Naily was momentarily stunned, realizing he was noting down the car’s number.
