When she arrived at the hospital, Lin Lan was still unconscious. Mr. and Mrs. Zhong had just left after keeping vigil all night. In the hospital room, Luoxuan looked haggard, with sunken eye sockets and bloodshot eyes. “How is she? What did the doctor say?” she asked anxiously.
“No life-threatening injuries, but she has a head trauma with a mild concussion! We’ll know more details after she wakes up!” Luoxuan said, still in shock. “The other driver was drunk driving. Fortunately, she was wearing a seatbelt.”
He didn’t finish, but Chu E understood the potential consequences. However, she couldn’t understand why Lin Lan would be driving to such a remote place so late at night, and why she didn’t return home.
Under her questioning gaze, Luoxuan guiltily lowered his head. When Lin Lan had driven away in anger, he had lain in bed, thinking she was just going for a drive and would return once she calmed down. But he never expected her to have an accident!
Speeding to the hospital and waiting outside the operating room, he finally felt afraid. Then, guilt. This was the first time he felt guilty towards Lin Lan.
Seeing his distressed state, Chu E knew he was suffering and didn’t want to interrogate him further. She sighed softly, “Go rest somewhere. You’ve been here all night and must be tired. I’ll stay and watch. I’ll call you when Lin Lan wakes up.”
Luoxuan hesitated, knowing he should stay and wait for her to wake up, but thinking about how he would face her, he nodded and gave her a grateful look before leaving the room.
Chu E sat by the bed, looking worriedly at Lin Lan, whose face was pale and eyes closed.
Time passed slowly. An hour after Luoxuan left, Lin Lan finally began to wake up. The moment she opened her eyes, Chu E’s heart settled, and she let out a long sigh of relief. “You’re finally awake. You had us so worried!”
