“It’s you?!” Lingzhou looked in shock at the person who had been attempting to assassinate her – she was actually Li Bihan’s personal maid, Suwan. “Why have you been trying to assassinate me repeatedly?”
“It’s all because of you that my mistress committed suicide!” Suwan shrieked, flames flickering with her emotion.
“What? Li Bihan committed suicide because of me? What nonsense are you talking about?” Lingzhou shot Suwan a contemptuous look.
“What right do you have to compete with my mistress for the general?” The red light of the torch illuminated Suwan’s eyes, which were filled with grief and indignation.
Lingzhou suddenly found it amusing, turning her head and surprisingly noticing Yu Ling standing nearby. She was about to ask something but was held back by Suwan’s hateful gaze.
“What did you say? Competing for Yun Yichen?” Lingzhou was glad she wasn’t drinking.
Water, or she would have sprayed it all over this self-righteous girl’s face.
“Hmph!” Suwan turned her head, not wanting to see Lingzhou’s ridiculous expression.
“I told Li Bihan long ago that I would never compete with her for a husband! Didn’t she tell you?” She couldn’t understand why this little maid was trying to assassinate her over Yun Yichen.
“Stop your sweet talk. If that’s true, why did my mistress say those words before dying?”
Lingzhou snorted with a laugh, feigning indifference. “If I really had such intentions, I would have married into the general’s house, not your mistress. I’m not as foolish as your mistress, using my life as a bet. So, I’m not interested in competing.”
Even if she wanted to listen to Li Bihan’s words, Yun Yichen had made things so clear. She wouldn’t force anything, and she couldn’t give anything.
“Someone like you doesn’t deserve love at all!” Suwan roared.
“…” Doesn’t deserve love? Lingzhou was momentarily stunned, then looked at Yu Ling, who had been silently watching her. Perhaps she really was like that; even she didn’t know what to do now. Li Bihan was still thinking of Yun Yichen before her death. Such love was something she couldn’t give or bear. “Whether I deserve it or not is not for you to say,” Lingzhou said expressionlessly.
