God’s Code

Zhang Ming then took out a cylindrical object from his pocket, and a beam of white light shot out from the front, hitting the skull. “This pulse gun could punch through your main battle tanks, but it would probably only leave a small, shallow mark on this skull.” As he spoke, Zhang Ming suddenly made a sound of surprise, “Huh,” and fired another beam of light from the pulse gun, much brighter than before. “Huh?” Zhang Ming exclaimed again, the front of the pulse gun began to glow, as if brewing something. After a few seconds, a faint red light shot out, striking the skull for the third time. It was clear that each strike was more powerful than the last, but upon closer inspection, there was no sign of the shallow marks Zhang Ming mentioned. I looked at the so-called “pulse gun” and then at Zhang Ming. Zhang Ming’s face showed a look of solemn respect: “This Fesi person’s skull is incredibly hard, suggesting they had an unimaginable amount of energy during their lifetime. They must have been a significant figure in Fesi history.” A thought struck me, and I asked, “Could their energy have been great enough to alter an entire star system?” Zhang Ming chuckled, “How could that be? Whether through mechanical or biological civilization development, it’s impossible to do something like that. Biological energy can develop to the point of causing destructive effects on planets, and mechanical civilization can alter the state of stars, but to manipulate an entire star system like chess pieces…” His voice lowered, his expression turning reverent: “That would truly be the power of gods. Otherwise, why would this place be called the ‘Code of God,’ why would so many civilizations be perplexed, and why would that great Fesi person have pondered for centuries?” I raised an eyebrow, “But the Fesi people came before the Weimo people, and both of your civilizations have individuals who’ve deciphered the Code of God. Now with the crystal ball, perhaps the secret will soon be revealed.” However, Zhang Ming was not swayed by my tone, “The unraveling of one mystery often leads to the discovery of bigger and more numerous ones. Both great figures who discovered the truth are dead, who knows what revealing the answer means?” His words made me uneasy. “But our current priority, of course, is to first decipher the Code of God. Don’t you Chinese have an old saying, ‘Morning news of the Dao, evening one can die content’?” Unbeknownst to us, night had fallen. Several times I wanted to ask to see the true appearance of the Weimo people but ultimately didn’t. It wasn’t that I feared Zhang Ming would find it abrupt; from the reaction of the little girl last time, I could guess their appearance wouldn’t be pleasing, and even if I remained composed on the surface, it would still be uncomfortable. Besides, is appearance really that important? Things are fine as they are, why add unnecessary awkwardness?
