Lone Hawk

Perhaps a glance or a movement from her would melt his heart, which he thought was unbreakable. So, let it end!

“Brother Jiang, you’re here!” Sanbao greeted as he stepped out of the hospital room.

Jiang Xiangyang quickly entered, “Sanbao, how is Xingyao’s condition? What did the doctor say?”

“Oh, Brother Jiang, I don’t really understand. The doctor mentioned that Xingyao’s brain waves show responses to external stimuli, which is a good sign that her condition is improving and she might wake up soon. You should ask Professor Wang for details; I can’t explain it clearly.” Sanbao scratched his head awkwardly.

Jiang Xiangyang then went to Jiang Xingyao’s attending physician’s office.

Half an hour later, back in the hospital room, Jiang Xiangyang sat by the bed, holding Jiang Xingyao’s pale wrist. “Xingyao, you can hear me, right? The doctor says you’re responding to stimuli. You must keep fighting and wake up soon. Once you wake up, we’ll get married, okay?” He whispered, hoping she would hear him, feeling an exhausting, intangible weariness in his heart.

The doctor noted that while Jiang Xingyao’s condition was uncommon, it was not impossible.

Her brain showed clear responses to external stimuli, indicating that her injured cells had recovered. If her loved ones spoke to her with words she loved, her chances of waking up were high.

In Macau, July was unbearably hot. Jiang Xiangyang rushed to the hospital after his daily tasks. Jiang Xingyao’s condition improved, and the doctor said she might wake up in a couple of days. The land in eastern Macau was finally secured, representing a new starting point for his real estate venture.

To occupy his mind and avoid thinking about her, he kept busy with work. July and August passed uneventfully. In mid-September, while in a management meeting, Sanbao called to inform him that Jiang Xingyao had woken up and urged him to come to the hospital. He knew he must fulfill his promise to marry her, acknowledging all she had given him since childhood.

By November, Jiang Xingyao’s health had mostly recovered; she only needed twice-weekly rehabilitation and no longer required hospital stay.

Jiang Xiangyang brought Jiang Xingyao home one day, and she expressed her desire to watch the popular disaster film “2012.”
