Lone Hawk

“Mm, an old friend,” Jiang Xiangyang replied, focusing on the road.

The dim street lamps flickered by, casting shadows in his deep eyes. If only wasted years could be revisited like passing scenery just by reversing the car. Life’s seconds, once gone, cannot be reclaimed. Missed opportunities remain just that—missed.

Life cannot afford missed chances; once lost, they are further than the horizon, more desperate than the edge of the sea.

That snowy pier that year—why did he refuse to take her to Macau? He thought he was protecting her, believing he could hold her again, but everything had already changed.

He saw Gao Jixuan, the man he hated, holding her intimately.

On the beach, towering blue-gray boulders stood out. Jing Xin had kicked off her shoes and was running towards the “Edge of the Sky and End of the Sea,” a place that had only existed in her dreams.

When she reached the stones, she stood quietly in front of them, examining the two rocks inscribed with “Sky” and “Sea.” Gao Jixuan stood behind her.

“Jing Xin, do you know the meaning of these words?” he asked.

Jing Xin turned to him, shaking her head blankly.

“The Edge of Sky and Sea means the boundary of the sky and the end of the ocean. But the sky is endless, and the sea has no definite shape. The Edge of Sky and Sea is merely a boundary of the human heart.”

Listening to his words, Jing Xin pondered. Her melancholic gaze drifted towards the vast sea, where sunlight scattered on the calm surface like tiny diamonds. Sea mist refracted colorful halos, blooming in mesmerizing circles, like a whirlpool that could absorb one’s soul.

Her gaze was fixed, unable to look away.

At the end of the beach, a man in white stood at the horizon, staring at her. Though she couldn’t see his expression, she sensed his sorrow.

Her thoughts drifted to years ago, to a rainy cemetery where she saw Jiang Xiang Yang standing before a grave. Gloomy clouds loomed, and his silhouette appeared desolate in the dark gray landscape, like a lone eagle in a vast wilderness.

For a moment, their eyes met, wordless, with the world fading away.
