Myth of Madness

The wooden door creaked open, and Xu Xianqi walked in from outside.

“Big sister, what are you doing?”

She still had that same face, but the smile seemed even more beautiful than before.

Had she not seen her for too long? Why did she feel a bit different?

“Nothing.” Xu Xian’en stood up, nervously grabbing Xu Xianqi’s hand. “Qi, let me ask you… have you… seen anything strange?”

“Big sister, you really like to joke. We live here in this desolate wilderness, what strange things could there be to see? If there were, I wouldn’t be complaining about boredom every day.” Xu Xianqi laughed naively, helping her sister to get a glass of water. “Here, have some water. I heard your scream from outside.”

“Our house… didn’t experience an earthquake, did it?” Xu Xian’en took a sip of water, then remembered that the house should have collapsed.

“No!” Xu Xianqi furrowed her brows, “What’s wrong? You wake up and start spouting nonsense. Did you learn from Bi Bi, run off to some big country, get recruited by a king as a consort, and finally become the protector of Nokon?”

Xu Xian’en sighed deeply, “No, but it was close…”

“Oh? Not bad, tell me about it.”

Xu Xianqi widened her eyes, waiting for her sister to share her dream about Nokon.

“Never mind.” Xu Xian’en coldly turned away, tears rolling in her eyes.

She didn’t want to share those dangerous experiences with anyone. Thinking about that journey made her feel both excited and saddened because it reminded her of Shen Ben… that man who, even in life-threatening situations, tried his best to protect her.

Tears began to fall.

Was he really dead? Otherwise, why wouldn’t Xianqi mention him?

Thinking of him, who nearly got eaten, thinking of him, who held her hand when she was scared, thinking of him, who kissed her while she pretended to sleep, thinking of him, who insisted on protecting her until the end… “Boohoo…” She whimpered softly.

Why am I crying again? Don’t cry, silly…

His words echoed softly in her heart, churning in her memory.

Unexpectedly, the more she thought about him, the harder it was for her, until finally, her brows furrowed, and she burst into loud sobs.
