“Nah, I was lucky when I fell; I had that big, dumb thing to cushion my fall, and the ground was soft, so it hurts, but it’s not that serious. The scariest thing, though…” He gave a cold laugh, “That creature had bad breath.”
“Really?” She stared at him blankly, forgetting to cry.
“Yeah, when it grabbed me, all I could think was: ‘It’s over! I’m going to be chewed up and swallowed whole,’ and I had to endure its bad breath. It’s disgusting. Don’t monsters brush their teeth?” He raised his eyebrows, letting out a long sigh. “And it had no sense of delicacy, grabbing so hard it hurt like hell.”
“Does it hurt a lot?” she asked cautiously, looking at the bruises on his arms.
“Of course it hurts! That dead monster had no compassion at all!” Shenpeng grimaced in pain, his already weakened body now feeling even more drained, not even wanting to move.
Being grabbed by that ghost was one thing, but then falling from the sky… twice! Even with the soft mud and leaves to break his fall, it was still excruciating.
“Then rest for a bit, I’ll go find some food,” Xu Xian’en looked around. Fortunately, the area was still somewhat secluded; if they couldn’t leave like before, at least they wouldn’t be found so quickly.
“What about the bag of dry food?” He closed his eyes, the pain spreading through his body making him want to scream.
“I was so worried about you that I didn’t have time to care about that bag, so we’ll have to make do tonight, we don’t even have any water.” She shrugged, clapping her hands as if to get up.
“Ah, forget it, we won’t find it now,” Shenpeng weakly pressed down on her movement to rise. “Is it safe for you to go alone? Maybe you shouldn’t go, what if that big, dumb thing catches you?”
That’s him, always thinking about her, directly expressing his concerns. “What’s there to do after being eaten? I’ll just have to rely on you to make me a new set of clothes when the time comes,” Xu Xianen stood up, hands on her hips, laughing heartily, though there was an ambiguous shimmer in her eyes.
