Peach Blossom Calamity

Xia Hou Zun looked at the necklace, noting how it complemented her fair skin.

“Not to your liking? Then choose another.”

Summer Ice rolled her eyes internally, wondering when he’d seen her express joy. “I’m afraid wearing this will make my neck heavy, and I’ll barely be able to walk,” she said, worried about potentially losing or damaging such an expensive piece.

Understanding her jest, he smirked, “Then take good care of it. If you break it, I’ll just sell you.”

“You think I’m some noble lady? I wouldn’t even cover the cost. For my peace of mind, I’d rather not wear it,” Summer Ice said, recognizing the vanity it brought but refusing to indulge in Cinderella fantasies.

“This isn’t even the best. Keep complaining, and I’ll change to an even more expensive one that would take ten lifetimes of slavery to repay,” he said, amused by her caution.

Knowing his intention, she silently cursed him as a cunning merchant.

At the venue, Summer Ice realized this was a Xia Hou family event.

Glasses clinking, people mingling in elegant attire.

Xia Hou Zun left her to the side while entertaining business partners.

Summer Ice observed, fascinated by this real-life glimpse of high society.

“Hey, where did this bastard drag you from?” a woman elegantly swirled her wine, red lips parting.

Summer Ice looked up to see a provocatively dressed woman beside her.

“You’re birds of a feather, both so savage. But given his bloodline, finding someone like you is hardly surprising,” the woman criticized Xia Hou Zun’s taste.

Summer Ice confirmed the woman was addressing her – dressed extravagantly, speaking venomously. Was this the attitude of a high-society lady?

Proud Peacock

“Meeting you, I indeed realized I don’t fit in,” Summer Ice paused, “Because standing next to a woman like you completely diminishes my noble character.”

Xia Hou Ling initially thought the woman understood her status, but the latter half of the statement made her want to grab the woman’s hair in anger.

“Don’t get ahead of yourself before entering the Xia Hou family. I heard there’s a woman pregnant with his child. You little sparrow, be careful not to fall before reaching your perch,” Xia Hou Ling sneered.

“What if it is his child?” Summer Ice replied nonchalantly, not caring about the implications.
