She dropped her bag and rushed to her mother’s side. Suppressing her grief and fear, she realized she must not panic. Her mother would be fine. She lifted her mother’s bleeding arm, quickly bandaged it, and carried her mother out of the courtyard.
Rushing out of the courtyard, Mei Yu cried out, turning her head slightly to call to her mother, “Mom, Mom, hold on, we’re almost at the hospital, Mom…” Realizing her mother was not completely unconscious, she screamed with all her might, willing her mother to live, her desperate voice echoing through the entire street and alley.
The taxi driver, though charging double the fare, took Mei Yu and her mother to a local hospital.
Mei Yu ran into the emergency building, shouting, “Doctor… doctor… help!” Her voice resonated throughout the emergency room.
The emergency room doctor saw the urgent situation and immediately had staff bring Mei Yu’s mother into the emergency surgery room.
Mei Yu followed, kneeling by the hospital bed, holding her mother’s hand and crying, “Mom, Mom, hold on…” The nurse asked Mei Yu to leave, but she couldn’t move. She was afraid that the moment she left, her mother would… She was terrified of losing the only family she had. She lay by the bed, crying out for her mother…
Finally, Mei Yu was dragged out by several nurses and placed on the waiting chairs outside the surgery room. The emergency director, seeing Mei Yu’s panic, had a young nurse stay with her.
The young nurse, understanding Mei Yu’s feelings, sat beside her, hugging her shoulders and continuously encouraging her, “It’s okay, Mom will be fine, really fine… Our department has saved many like this.”
Throughout the hours of emergency treatment, the young nurse stayed by Mei Yu’s side, comforting her and finally calming her down.
The surgery room light finally went out.
Mei Yu, looking at the extinguished sign on the surgery room door, took a deep breath and stood up, wanting to rush inside. She was afraid, her mind constantly replaying TV scenes of doctors shaking their heads to family members after a death. She couldn’t bear to imagine it.
