Meng Qing infiltrated the hotel’s security system, retrieving the camera footage from the security monitoring room to his terminal, allowing him to monitor everyone’s actions in the room.
Two on-duty staff members sat in the monitoring room, facing a row of monitors.
Meng Qing recorded ten-second clips from the cameras at several key points leading to Griffin’s office and set them to loop, preventing the room’s personnel from seeing the actual situation.
Yu Yi’s voice came through his earpiece: “The elevator is coming up.”
Meng Qing switched the monitoring room’s signal, displaying the pre-set looping footage on the monitors, “Done.”
Yu Yi entered the elevator, rode to the tenth floor, and arrived at the Rainbow Hotel’s office area.
The doors to the regular office area could be opened with an access card. However, Griffin’s office was different.
During yesterday’s visit to Griffin’s office, Meng Qing had already noticed that the door was fitted with an electronic password lock. Entering the wrong password three times would trigger an alarm.
Yu Yi took out a prepared spray bottle, held it vertically, and lightly sprayed the keypad. Soon, several number keys showed a faint blue fluorescence – the fingerprints from the numbers Griffin would press when entering the password: 1, 3, 4, 9.
She photographed the fingerprints on the keypad and sent the picture to Meng Qing.
Meng Qing pulled up the video of Griffin opening the door. Although his body blocked the lock, his elbow’s slight movement was visible. Meng Qing enlarged and slowed down the elbow’s movement, tracing its trajectory, and then called out the password based on the fingerprints: “431934.”
Listening to Meng Qing’s number input through her earpiece, the electronic lock made a soft “click,” and the office door opened slightly. Yu Yi didn’t enter, as Meng Qing had told her that Griffin’s office might have a separate monitoring device independent of the hotel system.
She reached behind the door and attached a listening device to the bottom of the door frame. Then she closed the office door and wiped away her fingerprints from the keypad.
Instead of returning the same way, she entered an elevator that could go directly to the top-floor executive office. The Blue Sapphire Hotel’s CEO Nelson’s office, like Griffin’s, used a password lock. Yu Yi and Meng Qing used the same method to unlock it and install a listening device.
After completing this, Yu Yi returned to the eighth-floor guest room, and Meng Qing switched the hotel monitoring room’s display back to real-time when she entered.
On the morning of the third day after their arrival at Black Pearl Island, Meng Qing went to Griffin’s office to report the “investigation results” on Rodney, which could be summed up as absolutely nothing.
Upon learning that Meng Qing had followed Rodney without finding useful information, Griffin was dissatisfied. However, his face didn’t show his displeasure, and he merely said casually, “It’s only been two days. It’s normal to find nothing. Continue following him, and also investigate that equipment department employee.”
Meng Qing shrugged, “There’s nothing to investigate. If you insist, I could follow him for ten days or half a month, and still find nothing.”
Griffin stared at Meng Qing expressionlessly, “I pay you to find suspicious aspects of Rodney. If you can’t find anything due to your own capabilities, that would be a breach of contract.”
He implied in his words that if there was no evidence, I should find or “create” evidence; otherwise, it would be a breach of contract. Meng Qing naturally understood, and his face showed an anxious expression as he quickly changed his tone: “Ah, I’ve been following him for too short a time. Give me a few more days, and I guarantee I’ll find evidence of his manipulation!”
Griffin smiled, “This is the right work attitude.”
Meng Qing relaxed and smiled, “My work attitude is extremely serious and rigorous. Mr. Griffin can rest assured.”
Griffin nodded, “I believe you can find evidence. In the future, don’t come directly to me for any situations, go to Taylor instead.”
“Okay, okay.” Meng Qing eagerly agreed.
When he left Griffin’s office and was pressing the elevator button, he heard Griffin make a phone call: “That detective isn’t clever enough. You need to create ‘opportunities’ for him… the faster, the better.”
He returned to the eighth-floor guest room and said to Yu Yi: “Let’s go, let’s work seriously and rigorously.”
While Meng Qing was in Griffin’s office, Yu Yi was also listening to their conversation, including the phone call Griffin made afterward. Hearing this, she chuckled, “They want to actively provide you an opportunity. We don’t need to find evidence ourselves.”
Meng Qing said seriously, “Attitude. Watch your attitude.”
Chapter 95 Pearl Island (6)
At noon, Taylor called Meng Qing: “Mr. Li, where are you?”
Meng Qing said, “I’m following Rodney.”
Taylor asked with surprise, “You’re at Saloro Hotel?”
“No.”
Taylor sneered, “Rodney is at Saloro, meeting with an employee from our equipment department. How are you tracking him? Mr. Li, don’t just play around with your ‘female assistant’.”
If you continue like this, you won’t just fail to get paid, you’ll have to pay a large breach of contract penalty.”
Meng Qing removed his infrared glasses, looked at Yu Yi, and suppressed a laugh: “I’ll head there right away.”
Yu Yi remained in the room next to Pink to continue monitoring, while Meng Qing rushed to Saloro Hotel, taking photos of Rodney, the vice president’s assistant of Rainbow Hotel, having a meal and getting into the same car with the equipment department employee.
Later that same day, Meng Qing handed the photos to Taylor.
Meng Qing immediately reacted; yes, Pink’s target must be Nelson, so no matter where he was going before, he would definitely end up at Nelson’s house. He started the car, turned at the next intersection, and headed towards Nelson’s home.
When they arrived near Nelson’s house, Nelson had not yet left the restaurant.
Meng Qing parked the car outside a house two hundred meters from Nelson’s home, turned off the engine, and he and Yu Yi observed the surroundings using high-powered telescopes.
Night gradually fell, and Yu Yi adjusted the telescope to night vision mode. This was a high-end residential area with large distances between residents, with lawns and trees separating each house.
The sound of an electric car approaching came from afar, then quickly went quiet. Soon, a man approached Nelson’s house quickly, cautiously checking the surroundings. Yu Yi saw clearly through the telescope that this person was Pink. She whispered, “He’s here.”
Meng Qing asked, “Where is Nelson?”
Yu Yi looked down at her terminal, “He has left the restaurant and is heading this way.” She looked up again, no longer able to see Pink’s trace, “Did he go in?”
“Yes, he went around the back of the house.”
Yu Yi switched the telescope to infrared thermal imaging mode, seeing an orange-red human figure moving around the perimeter of Nelson’s house, crouching for a while, then entering through the back door and going upstairs, crouching on the second-floor balcony.
Meng Qing whispered, “Has Nelson returned?”
Yu Yi confirmed Nelson’s location again, “Almost here.”
More than a minute later, the sound of a car came from behind their vehicle. Yu Yi looked at the map on her terminal, “It’s Nelson.”
Meng Qing got out of the car and stood in the middle of the road, blocking Nelson’s car.
Nelson stopped his car, confused, and lowered the window, asking, “Do you need help?”
Meng Qing walked to his car, “Hello, Mr. Nelson, I’m Li Zhi.”
Nelson heard the name Li Zhi and carefully looked at Meng Qing’s face, surprised, “Are you the detective Griffin hired? What can I do for you?”
