“We were all bad kids back then, but everyone liked Sister Feng. Although you could be fierce and sharp-tongued at times, you had the best and kindest heart. You genuinely cared for us, listened to our troubles, and I owe my acceptance of my family to Sister Feng’s efforts.”
They walked and talked. Passing by a music store, a poster of Wind God’s promotional photo was displayed in the window.
Wu Wen stopped in his tracks, looking at Feng. “Three years ago, I went to the US, and only recently did I learn about a band with a lead singer named Feng Jian Ya Ye, whose popularity is soaring.” He continued, shifting his gaze to the promotional poster of Feng Jian Ya Ye, “Given our years of acquaintance and seeing so few men with such perfect features, I recognized him.”
“He indeed is Wu Feng,” Feng laughed, her laughter radiant. “I never actually connected the two of them.”
He said in a low voice, “He said he likes someone who can weave the wind, isn’t that ‘Ye Feng’? Did you come to Tokyo for this reason?”
Is he trying to judge her? Ye Feng’s face turned pale. “Yes,” she admitted.
“Thinking back to that year, Wu Feng was indeed quite eccentric. He was our senior and always led us to chase after your sister. I never thought he had special feelings for you back then.” He sighed, “Your relationship is just too terrifying!”
Feng Feng clenched her fists. Temporarily escaping from Ya Ye’s embrace, she had to face reality. The escapism that made her forget the facts had finally made her realize the cruelty of it all.
“I don’t want to make things hard for you. I’ll go back now, and I will forget all about it.” He looked at her, “I just don’t understand how a normal person would accept such chaos? Sister, I don’t want to see you get hurt!”
“Wu Feng, he loved me with his life.” She spoke deliberately. “Without him, there would be no happiness for me. The four years he was not by my side, I wasn’t happy, I only realized this point.”
“Is that enough? You love each other, so you don’t need to care about others?”
Feng Feng raised her head, her face showing a smile that seemed to despise everything. “Even hell would be nothing to me.”
He couldn’t understand how, when she was burdened with such a sinful relationship, tasting the forbidden fruit, she could still have such a radiant smile and courage. Was it because she loved someone and was deeply loved in return? If that was truly the case, God, please, don’t let this end! Let the sword of punishment never have the chance to harm!
Chapter Eleven
Ya Ye called from Hong Kong back to Beijing. It rang for a long time before someone answered.
“Feng Feng, what’s wrong with you?” His tone was filled with concern. “Are you feeling uncomfortable?”
“I’m fine.” Her voice was low and muffled. “Ya Ye, in two days it will be the Qingming Festival, I want to go back to Taipei.”
“I’ll go with you, we’ll meet in Taipei.”
She was silent for a few seconds. “Ya Ye, will Dad and Mom forgive us?”
“Have we done anything wrong?”
“Don’t ask me. I’m powerless now, let Dad and Mom decide.” She hung up the phone.
Ye Feng Feng, are you hesitating again? Ya Ye put down the receiver, truly wanting to fly back to Beijing.
With nothing to do, he could only go to the bar downstairs to drink away his sorrows, where he coincidentally met Zuo Qianling.
“Borrowing wine to drown your sorrows? Thinking of Feng Feng?” Qianling played with his glass.
“And you? Are you very lonely?”
“The person I like doesn’t need me.” Qianling laughed bitterly without much emotion. “Ya Ye, can I accompany you?”
Ya Ye put down his glass. “Qianling, whether it’s a woman or a man, I don’t need anyone. With Feng Feng, there is happiness.”
“Happiness is a fleeting feeling. When we feel happy, the other might feel miserable. Does she truly love you? Or is she just moved by you and willing to endure the misery to be with you?”
His face paled. Ye Feng Feng, do you really love me?
The day Feng Shen returned to Beijing, Ya Ye took the opportunity to go to Taipei. Even with doubts, he wanted to find out: do you love me?
Ye Feng Feng, carrying a large bouquet of flowers, walked towards her parents’ grave. In the drizzle, she saw him.
She offered the flowers and stood shoulder to shoulder with him.
“I saw Wu Wen in Beijing, and after coming back, I dreamt of my parents,” said Feng Feng, looking at the photos on the tombstone. “Mom kept crying, she was so sad, my heart ached. Dad was furious, he wanted to kill me. I tried my hardest to escape, but no matter how fast I ran, I could feel the killing intent from the knife.” She gave a strange, half-smile. “I think the punishment is about to begin.”
“You’re not wrong! It was always me forcing myself upon you!” he said in anguish. “Let God punish me! Falling in love with my own sister, taking her body, it was all my initiative!”
She remained motionless, her face growing increasingly mournful with a smile. “Who’s right or wrong, what does it matter? They are in heaven, bearing our sorrow. If one of us hadn’t been born, perhaps we wouldn’t live in such pain.”
You promised to give her happiness, but she still ended up unhappy! You are a hopeless mess!
Feng Feng reached into her bag, pulled out a coin, and held it up before his eyes. “Let our parents decide. Heads, everything ends here, you go back to Beijing, I stay, and we never see each other again; tails, it means we are forgiven!”
“Before you throw this fateful coin, I have a few words to say,” Ya Ye gazed at her intently. “No matter what fate has in store, I’m still grateful to heaven for letting me meet you and experience a lifetime’s worth of true love. Whether as a sister or as a lover, I only love you! Even if you say you don’t love me, my heart will not change!”
Tears flowed silently. Feng Feng tossed the coin into the air. Decide, spirits of our parents! Is loving someone deeply a sin? If it’s not allowed, then why do we love so truly and fervently?
The coin performed a free fall, landing on the ground. It spun continuously, slowing down, and finally came to a trembling stop.
Silence fell as their gazes dared not meet. Heads! Everything will end!
“While there’s still a chance, Ya Ye, let’s elope,” Feng Feng said, lowering her head. It didn’t matter if the future held unhappiness; she couldn’t wait for misfortune to strike Ya Ye before deciding to let go.
Why? Is this what’s considered normal? Loving someone to the extent of forsaking everything, yet this love is forbidden by God! Ya Ye wanted to scream, to shatter the world. No rules! No prohibitions! None of it is needed!
“Let’s escape, to a place where no one knows us!”
Feng Feng gazed at the faces of their parents. Could they really escape? She had already prepared herself to accept misfortune, but their parents’ warning in her dream reminded her. She was his sister; she should have the courage to reject him. Could she really win against God? Could she bear to let him suffer in hell with her? If God truly wants to punish someone, then let it be me!
“Ya Ye, it’s over,” she said coldly.
“I can’t accept this outcome!” He grabbed her hand. “Ye Feng Feng, weren’t we very happy in Beijing?”
“Happiness always comes at a cost! Ya’er, you might not care, but I can’t let everything be destroyed! I can’t bear it when others look at you with disdain!” Her hands trembled. “While there’s still time, Ya’er, go back to Beijing! Forget about someone named Ye Feng, and talk about normal love.”
“I don’t want a future without you!” He knelt on the ground, pressing her hand to his cheek. “Feng’er, what must I do to make you feel at ease? I don’t want to leave you!”
Are those tears? Don’t do this to me, or I’ll be moved again! Between the wrath of the gods and his deep affection, you can’t hesitate anymore.
