The Queen’s Path

Kains was irritated. “I understand. You don’t care, so I don’t care either.”

“Perfect,” Angela said as she grabbed her bag and ran off, leaving Kains sitting on the bed, frustrated.

The newlyweds set off for their honeymoon at the Froiding Mountain Villa, a famous hot spring resort in the Froiding mountain area known for its beautiful scenery and rustic architecture, resembling a fairytale world.

In autumn, the mountain maple leaves blazed red, looking like they were burning. Mountain streams pooled blue as gemstones, with fish swimming among the rocks.

Wilhelm and his wife enjoyed their time in this isolated paradise, free from palace intrigues, political troubles, and urban noise. They fell in love with this utopia, walking hand-in-hand on a flower-strewn country path.

Three short-legged hunting dogs followed closely, occasionally playing with each other.

The valley below was a large, flat meadow where the young couple rode horses in the afternoon. The grass was thick, almost reaching the horses’ knees. They galloped through, startling small birds feeding in the grass.

A hot spring stream flowed out behind the mountain villa, converging into a small creek with clear water. Albert fished by the creek while Wilhelmina sat nearby reading. The autumn sunlight was warm, and she occasionally fell asleep, finding herself back in bed under a soft blanket upon waking.

During rainy weekends, they lingered in bed, laughing together as the female servant brought meals, wrapped in their blanket.

An old orange tree by the villa’s main house still held a few of the largest oranges. Albert climbed up to pick them while Wilhelmina stood below, using her skirt to catch the oranges he threw down. They were as happy as children.

The housekeeper, passing by, saw their behavior, adjusted his glasses, and continued on.

In the evening, when it cooled down, they often stayed in wearing pajamas, sitting by the fireplace and roasting oranges with a fork. Wilhelmina fed Albert a segment, making him jump from the sourness.

She laughed and tried to escape, but he caught her and pressed her down on the carpet.

“Sir,” Wilhelmina said seriously, “Do you know what you’re doing? I am the Queen of the Galactic Empire.”

“Yes, Your Majesty, I am well aware,” Albert smiled. “May I kiss you?”

Wilhelmina burst out laughing.

So Albert leaned down and kissed her.
