The Undead

“So I didn’t want to ask for your help! If you don’t want to cooperate, get out of the way! I can do this myself right now—”

Tang Hao’s furious roar was suddenly interrupted. Sinan swiftly struck with a hand chop. Tang Hao, whose attention was distracted by Zhou Rong, was caught off guard. His gun was violently knocked away by Sinan, and with a “bang!” it accidentally discharged and spun into the sky.

The moment the gun went off, Zhou Rong’s blood ran cold. Special forces burst out from the bushes behind him.

With a crisp sound, Sinan grabbed the gun a thousandth of a second before Tang Hao and immediately pressed it against Tang Hao’s forehead!

“You can’t,” Sinan said flatly. “With your luck, you want to fight the boss alone? You’d be dead before getting the antibody.”

Tang Hao stood frozen in front of him, motionless.

All people had grass leaves and tree branches tied on their heads.

Zhou Rong took out a candy from another pocket, reached into his coat, wiped it repeatedly on the only clean inner T-shirt, then briefly stopped to personally unwrap the candy for Sinan to eat, wiping the corner of his mouth before continuing to lead the way forward.

“No one is to sacrifice themselves until the last step. We must retrieve the antibodies, keep Sinan safe, and ensure Soup Chief stays alive to avenge his subordinates,” Zhou Rong said in a low voice. “We’ve already lost too many people. Now, we should first think about how to make the enemy pay the price, not rush to self-sacrifice.”

Tang Hao seemed unprepared for Zhou Rong to suddenly say something so human-like and was momentarily stunned.

Zhou Rong ignored him and asked Sinan, “What do you think are the chances of Rommel shooting you dead on the spot?”

“Not high,” Sinan said while eating the candy.

Zhou Rong, who had just been chatting animatedly, instantly transformed, giving Sinan a look that seemed to say, “Has my wife been unfaithful?”

Sinan returned an innocent gaze.

Zhou Rong: “…Why?”

Sinan: “He’s psychologically abnormal.”

Zhou Rong: “…What kind of abnormal?”

Sinan, extremely surprised: “Just different from others.”

Zhou Rong looked utterly exasperated, while Tang Hao beside him was thoroughly enjoying the scene.

“Sinan,” Zhou Rong put his arm around Sinan’s shoulder, walking and speaking sincerely, “Although your husband trusts you very much, communication is important.”

This group traversed through dense, difficult-to-navigate forest, waded through streams, and in the distance, a slope covered with vegetation appeared.

Zhou Rong stopped walking, took out a military telescope, and encouraged him with his eyes to continue.

Zhou Rong observed the hilltop from a distance, speaking softly, “Transforming fear of one’s own nature into hatred towards the object of that nature, typical of extreme Alpha syndrome.”

The telescope’s focus continuously adjusted, enlarging the distant scene. A mud-covered off-road vehicle was parked at the hilltop, with no clear view of its occupants.

Rommel stood leaning against the car door, and shortly after, a burly blonde female Alpha appeared and lit a cigarette for him.

“Daughter,” Zhou Rong signaled everyone to quickly hide behind trees, “The woman who bullied you last time is out again.”

Chun Cao immediately burst forward, “What? Where?”

Zhou Rong lay prone on the ground, handing her the telescope. Chun Cao took a look and became enraged, “Damn it! How can the person who bullied me still be alive and kicking? Is there no justice in this world?!”

Yan Hao whispered behind her, “…I feel like the exact opposite is true…”

“Don’t worry, daughter, we’ll hand that woman over to you soon,” Zhou Rong took back the telescope from Chun Cao, carefully observing the terrain around the slope, pondering for a moment before making a decision.

“Tang Hao, if you let Romuel take away Si Xiaonan, I will make your awareness a reality, understand?”

Tang Hao: “…”

“Lastly, Si Xiaonan.” Zhou Rong seemed to have made a huge sacrifice: “If Tang Chieftain makes a mistake and you fall into enemy hands, that… Brother Rong can accept your temporary compromise, as long as you still have me in your heart—umph!…

Si Nan gripped Zhou Rong’s chin coldly, saying: “You’re overthinking it.”

Ten minutes later, at the top of a towering tree two hundred meters east of the hillside, Yan Hao lay prone on a thick branch, setting up an assault rifle and looking through the scope towards the hillside.

There seemed to be someone sitting in the off-road vehicle, likely the two-meter-tall Abbas.

Romuel and Jane were standing outside the car talking, with Romuel’s figure almost completely blocked, making it difficult to see clearly from this angle.

“Sniper in position, over.”

Zhou Rong’s crackling voice came through the wireless earpiece: “Ambush squad, take your positions. Damn, the signal here is terrible… Yan Hao, check where Tang Hao and Si Xiaonan are?”

“At my three o’clock, one hundred meters on the hillside front, they’re about to come out of the forest.”

Zhou Rong cautiously asked: “The surnamed Tang didn’t touch my Si Xiaonan, right? I just saw them sitting really close.”

Tang Hao’s exasperated voice came through the radio: “I have principles, thank you! Si Xiaonan was just helping me attach a grenade!”

Zhou Rong: “Who gave you the walkie-talkie? Si Xiaonan isn’t yours to thank. Friend, a friend’s wife is not to be trifled with, understand?”

A chorus of suppressed laughter came through the channel.

Zhou Rong threatened: “Anyway, just understand. I’m warning you, Si Nan’s combat power can basically cover a whole company. Provoke him and he’ll teach you to be a new person in minutes. I only managed to pin him down after beating him…”

“Gave you a hand,” Si Nan said indistinctly with a candy in his mouth.

Tang Hao said, exasperated: “Shut up, I’m going now, bye!”

Tang Hao removed his earpiece and threw it into the bushes, choking Si Nan’s neck and pressing a gun to his head, walking directly towards Romuel’s position on the hillside.

In the distance, Romuel immediately stirred, his gloomy and stern face turning towards them.

“Your heart is beating very fast,” Si Nan said without turning back, almost inaudibly.

The two crossed the relatively flat ground below the hillside. Tang Hao whispered in response: “I’m a bit nervous. Can I ask, what’s your usual luck value?”

Si Nan was silent for a moment: “Pretty good.”

Romuel gave an order, and a female Alpha raised her gun, striding down the hillside.

Tang Hao seemed relieved: “That’s great, at least one of us won’t draw forty Rs in a row.”

The female Alpha stopped at the bottom of the hillside, her cold gaze surveying Si Nan, letting out a cold snort.

“Hey!

Tang Hao stopped about ten meters from her, forcefully choking Si Nan’s throat, completely disregarding the latter’s involuntary painful moans, fiercely saying: “I’ve brought him. Where’s the antibody?”

Jane lazily tilted her head, speaking in stiff Chinese: “Come up with me. Romuel is waiting on the hillside.”

Unexpectedly, Tang Hao firmly refused: “No, have him come down! Who knows if you’ve set a trap up there to kill me?”

“Unless he comes down, there’s nothing to discuss.” Tang Hao said coldly: “Isn’t he looking for the antibody carrier? Now I have him, if he doesn’t come down, he’ll have nothing. Figure it out.”

The female Alpha narrowed her eyes dangerously, about to step forward: “How dare you—”

“Stop, Jane.”

The female Alpha immediately halted. Tang Hao glanced up. Romuel stood high on the hillside, casually flicking away a cigarette butt, drawing his gun, his other hand holding that familiar, unmistakable silver antibody box.

“Can’t you see? He’s wearing grenades.” Romuel said calmly. “As long as you move, he’s ready to take Noah down with him.”
