The Undead

This series of moves took less than half a second. The nearest patrol soldiers hadn’t even reacted before the dagger whirled past their ears and embedded into a tree trunk.

Jian couldn’t dodge and was caught by Chuncao’s scissor legs, suddenly strangling her neck!

This move was so beautiful that several soldiers forgot their fear and unconsciously shouted: “Wow!”

Jian’s face reddened. Her knees crashed onto the cement ground, her upper body bent into a U-shape, her neck locked by the girl’s slender, pale legs.

Face-to-face at close range, Chuncao slightly raised her head and mocked: “Who’s underdeveloped?”

Jian’s blue eyes bulged, bloodshot, with her lips curving into a spasmodic cold smile.

The next second, she grabbed Chuncao’s ankle, her hand muscles protruding, and all ten red-polished nails sank into the flesh.

Blood trickled down her calf as she pried open Chuncao’s scissor legs.

“You think,” Jian rasped, “you’ll never grow old, you brat?”

Chuncao suddenly rolled on the ground. Jian’s punch narrowly missed her back and crashed into the ground.

Luo Muer coldly said: “Your people will be disciplined, Captain Zhou.”

Zhou Rong smiled slightly, with a hint of evil in his eyes: “Is that so? Your people will be beaten to death.”

Old General Zheng stood nearby with a dark face.

—Boom!

Chuncao couldn’t dodge in time, her face was hit solidly, immediately spitting out blood. Broken flower pots and tiles were scattered at their feet. Chuncao counterattacked, her curved knife forcing Jian back, cutting a deep bloody mark on her chest.

The wound was deep enough to expose bone. Jian spat fiercely, took off her short jacket, and rushed forward to punch. But it was a feint. While Chuncao dodged, she was hit by a brutal hit. Then Jian grabbed her short hair, fingers aimed at her eyes:

“You little girl—”

Chuncao cut her hair and stabbed back towards her throat.

Jian was forced to retreat in the splashing blood. Chuncao was like a fierce wild beast, advancing with each slash, the knife grazing Jian’s face, forcing her back until she was cornered.

Crack—

At her wit’s end, Jian protected her face with her arms, sacrificing her arms to knock away Chuncao’s curved knife. As the knife fell with a clang, her next kick was blocked by Chuncao’s hand. Then Jian was kicked several meters, heavily crashing into the wall!

Chuncao’s military boot kick was like a Dongfeng truck’s impact. For several seconds, Jian felt her heart had stopped, then coughed out a mouthful of hot blood.

“Chest fat accumulation isn’t that useful,” Chuncao wiped her bloody, dusty face with her wrist, hooking her index finger: “Of course, I’ll also grow old, but…”

Luo Muer’s eye twitched. Before he could move, Zhou Rong blocked his path. Luo Muer ground out a word from between his teeth: “You!”

Chuncao said: “But you’ll only become an old lady…”

Jian’s pupils dilated, then contracted.

“…while I’ll become an elegant old lady.”

Before the last word fell, the girl’s iron fist, wrapped in fierce wind, had arrived.

—Boom!!

At that moment, those nearby almost heard the sound of a skull cracking. At this point, Jian could not make a sound in the violent storm of blows. After Yang Chuncao kneed her hard in the abdomen, she could only spray out blood mixed with bile.

Luo Muer finally could not hold back, but at the same time, Zhou Rong suddenly made a move!

Several crisp sounds rang out, so fast that they seemed to blend into one. In the blink of an eye, the two were locked in a deadly embrace, with Luo Muer holding a dagger, its blade pressing against the tip of Zhou Rong’s triangular military spike.

“Stop! Enough!” General Zheng heard the clear sound of internal organs being compressed in the punches and knew that a life-threatening situation was imminent, and finally strode forward: “Lieutenant Yang Chuncao! That’s enough!”

The soldiers rushed forward and forcibly pulled Yang Chuncao away from the one-sided beating. Jian had been hit by more than ten quick and fierce iron fists and was now unconscious, her entire body covered in blood, and was immediately placed on a stretcher for emergency rescue.

The young girl’s ferocity had not subsided, her black and white eyes looking up at General Zheng, the blood-stained corner of her mouth curling up carelessly. Her expression was surprisingly similar to Zhou Rong’s, and Zheng Xie momentarily forgot what he was going to reprimand her for.

The old general suddenly paused, then continued to roar: “Is this the discipline of 118? Who sent you here? Colonel Zhou, immediately take your people and go to confinement—”

Zheng Xie looked up.

In the crowd not far away, Si Nan’s face was pale as paper, and he silently collapsed.

Zhou Rong rushed forward, and everyone around was stunned. A soldier approached and touched the back of Si Nan’s head, immediately trembling and pulling out a hand covered in blood!

“He was… hit,” the soldier stammered, “Hit by that woman, quickly notify the research institute!”

General Zheng’s boiling anger was doused like a bucket of ice, instantly extinguished, leaving only a cold feeling rising from his viscera.

Luo Muer pushed through the crowd, but before he could steady himself, Zhou Rong struck him down with a lightning-fast punch. Zhou Rong picked up the unconscious Si Nan and shouted, “Call the medical team!”

In the observation room on the top floor of the research institute.

“Concussion,” Ning Yu spun in his chair, the hem of his white coat swaying, coldly stating: “Combined with the previous intracranial hemorrhage, the antibody carrier has fallen into a coma with temporary brain dysfunction.”

General Zheng’s face was grave: “Is there a risk to his life?”

Ning Yu said: “I don’t know.”

Ning Yu’s attitude toward the military was extremely uncooperative, and General Zheng took a deep breath, feeling frustrated and unsure who to vent his anger on.

Before he could speak, Zhou Rong’s clear voice rang out: “This matter will not be settled like this.”

Zhou Rong sat by the examination table, tightly holding one of Si Nan’s hands, calm but seething with rage: “Why were those people in the military area?”

“I suggest we investigate her too,” he continued.

General Zheng nodded, his expression grave. “Yes, she may hold some information that could shed light on this situation.”

Zhou Rong’s voice turned urgent. “I also want to request additional security measures around the compound. We cannot afford any leaks.”

Ning Yu remained focused on Si Nan, noting the vulnerability in his unconscious state. “We need to ensure that whatever information Si Nan holds is protected at all costs.”

The general glanced at the wall clock, the ticking sound filling the tense silence of the room. “Time is of the essence,” he stated. “Let’s proceed with caution and strategy.”

The team gathered their resolve, fully aware that the stakes had never been higher. It was not just about one individual, but the broader implications of what Si Nan had revealed.

I request that Lieutenant Yang Chuncao be allowed to accompany him, which I believe will greatly aid Si Nan’s recovery.”

“I know!” General Zheng was exasperated, feeling defeated by these 118 special forces: “Record a major demerit for Lieutenant Yang Chuncao, punishment… we’ll discuss the punishment later! For now, it’s noted that future offenses will be compounded!”

This was a hot potato, with no clear responsibility. If traced back, Si Nan did indeed make the first move, but if blame were to be assigned, General Zheng himself, who watched the antibody carrier’s incident unfold, and the special tracking personnel who failed to control Si Nan, would all be in trouble.

General Zheng could only strictly warn against leaking information and inquire about the research institute’s matters, only to be deflected by Ning Yu, and reluctantly left.
